The tunnel seemed endless, its winding passageways colder with every step. Aryan followed Eva, feeling the weight of the darkness press in on him. Each footfall echoed in the stillness, but Eva moved with purpose, her expression calm despite the peril they faced.
Finally, they emerged into a vast underground chamber. The ceiling arched like a cathedral, and the walls were covered with strange, ancient carvings. In the center stood a massive stone door, its surface covered in glowing runes.
Eva turned to Aryan, her voice low. "This is it. The First Shadow’s sanctuary."
Aryan stepped forward, feeling an unfamiliar pull toward the door. "The texts?"
"Yes. But it won’t be easy to reach them." Eva placed her hand on the runes, and they began to glow. The stone door groaned open, revealing a narrow passage.
As they ventured deeper, Aryan felt a growing unease. The walls seemed to watch him, and his shadow stretched unnaturally behind him. Something ancient lingered in the air.
They reached a large chamber. Statues of ancient beings lined the walls, their eyes glowing with eerie light. In the center, a pedestal held an ancient tome.
As Aryan moved closer, the statues suddenly came to life. Eva stepped forward. "The trials have begun. Stay alert."
Before Aryan could react, a stone statue lunged at him. Without thinking, he raised his hand, and his shadow stretched out, wrapping around the statue's arm, halting its movement. The shadow felt alive, pulsing with energy.
"Focus!" Eva shouted. "Solidify it. Make it a weapon."
Aryan concentrated, and his shadow thickened, becoming a jagged tendril. With a sharp snap, it struck the statue, cracking it into pieces. Another statue advanced.
"Keep going," Eva urged. "These trials test your control, your will. The shadow is inside you."
Aryan steadied himself, calling upon his shadow. It obeyed, solidifying into a shield to block another attack. But as he fought, he noticed the pedestal c***k open, releasing a swirling vortex of darkness. The book was reacting, drawing the shadows toward it.
"It's trying to pull you in," Eva shouted. "Don’t let it!"
Aryan’s shadow fought against the pull. He focused, commanding it to return to him. Slowly, the shadow obeyed, wrapping around him for protection. With a final burst, he sent it spiraling toward the book, causing the vortex to collapse.
The room fell silent. The statues were still, the shadows calm. Aryan stood, his shadow now solid at his feet.
Eva gave him a small nod. "Well done. You’ve passed the first trial."
Aryan looked at the book on the pedestal. The next step awaited, but the Obsidian Order was still out there, hunting him.
