Chapter Twenty: White Lies

786 Words
“Lyndsay, I need to be at our business meeting in Manila. It’s about the new endorser for our product. We’re planning to promote our new designs this year. I’m so sorry, but I have to be there.” Tristan gave a long explanation while fixing his necktie in front of the mirror. Lyndsay immediately took the necktie from him and fixed it herself around his neck. “There, all good now!” she said with a sweet smile. “Thank you so much,” Tristan replied. She wrapped her arms around Tristan’s waist, and he bent down to give her a kiss. Tristan was always like that. He never forgot to hug and kiss her. But he never said the words “I love you.” Lyndsay admitted to herself that she had been waiting to hear those words from him. “Are you going to be okay here? Do you want me to hire someone to stay with you and take care of you and our baby since I’ve been away from your side a lot these past few days?” Tristan was still holding her close. Her cheek rested against his broad chest. She could almost hear the beating of his heart. It made her want to knock on it and ask if she was finally the one inside it. “Lyndsay…” he called again after noticing she had gone silent. “H-Ha… ah, no need, Tristan. I’m okay… really,” she lied. Actually, she wasn’t okay at all. If only they could stay in Manila again instead. “Don’t worry, we won’t live in this mansion forever. I’m planning to build our own love nest, and I also want us to have privacy with our baby… I hope you won’t get impatient.” He looked straight into her eyes. “Yes, Tristan… I’ll wait.” Tristan hugged her tightly once again. “Alright, you should go now or you’ll be late. Please call me if you can’t come home.” “Yes, boss!” Then he smiled so sweetly that he looked even more handsome to her. What more could a woman ask for from Tristan? He was truly the definition of tall, dark, and handsome. He had a sharp nose, deep captivating eyes that always seemed seductive whenever he looked at someone, and naturally reddish lips. She even walked him out until he finally left. When his car disappeared from sight, she decided to head back to their room. She was about to turn around when Marcus suddenly appeared. “Lyndsay… does my brother know…” “What?!” she asked irritably. “About our past… does my brother know?” “He doesn’t need to know. What for?” she answered sarcastically. What exactly was this man trying to imply? “You’re being untrue to him. Why can’t you admit that I was the one you used to love?” Marcus challenged her. Little by little, Lyndsay was truly getting annoyed. “Marcus… wait, what exactly is the point of everything you’re saying? Look, I don’t want to talk about any of this anymore, okay? So excuse me, I’d really like to go into the room of my ‘husband’ so I can rest!” She rolled her eyes at him repeatedly. And if looks could kill, he would already be lying on the ground. What was wrong with this ex-boyfriend of hers who was now also her brother-in-law? Why wouldn’t he leave her alone? she screamed inside her mind. “Lyndsay, I know you. I know you’re here to get revenge on me because I left you!” Marcus said in a voice filled with accusation and judgment. She faced him again and met his gaze. “If that’s what you think, Marcus, there’s nothing I can do about it. But let me tell you this… if there’s anyone between the two of us who was untrue, it wasn’t me — it was you, because you lied about the promises you made to me before. I honestly swear that I didn’t know you and Tristan were brothers. And so what if you are brothers? I genuinely love your brother, and if… you have a problem with how I feel about him, then it’s not my problem anymore!” Her voice was soft but firm. After saying that, she finally left Marcus behind. She wanted to get away immediately. She no longer wanted to argue with him. And if she was lying to Tristan by hiding the truth about her past with Marcus, she could say those were only white lies. She had no bad intentions. All she wanted was for the issues of the past to finally end.
