Chapter Seven: Sweet Stranger
Lyndsay still felt dizzy and nauseous when she opened her eyes. She forced herself to remember what had happened, knowing she was currently in the clinic and not at home.
She couldn't recall how she got there. All she could remember was her vision fading to black after she saw that man!
She was staring blankly at the ceiling when her OB-GYN suddenly arrived.
"Lyndsay, dear, how are you feeling? Are you still dizzy?" the beautiful doctor asked with a tone of concern.
Clarisse must have brought her here because, aside from having a scheduled check-up today, her records—dating back to when she first discovered her pregnancy—were all kept here. Staying here meant she would certainly be well-taken care of.
She instinctively placed a hand on her womb.
"Sir, I suggest your wife gets enough rest for now, and please, do not let her get stressed or overthink things. It’s common for someone in Lyndsay's condition to feel stress due to the changes happening in her body caused by the pregnancy."
Lyndsay swallowed hard.
"Mi...mister?!"
"Who?!" She couldn't finish her sentence because her heart began to race like a thousand frantic drums. She couldn't explain the overwhelming anxiety she was feeling.
That was when she noticed the "Mister" the doctor was referring to, standing to the right of her bed.
It was none other than the man she was with on that night. She did what she shouldn't have!
That night she was completely drunk at a bar, leading them to a place where she surrendered her virtue to a man whose name she didn't even know.
Goodness, if my mother were still alive today, she surely would have pulled my hair and scolded me for my recklessness, Lyndsay thought. Yet, she didn't regret it, because her baby was the result of that mistake—if it even was a mistake.
"Yes, Doctor, please give all the medications my wife needs... vitamins, anything to ensure that she and my child are okay!"
The man spoke with utter sincerity. He acted like an exemplary father and husband who deeply loved and cared for his family.
It almost felt real—as if they truly were a married couple!
Lyndsay was startled when the handsome man suddenly took her right hand and kissed it. She wanted to scold herself because that strange nervousness returned.
Why was she reacting this way? It was as if she had been electrocuted by the stranger's touch.
"Wow, how sweet of you, sir... look, it made Mrs. blush!" the doctor teased, seemingly gushing over them.
Clarisse suddenly choked and coughed slightly at the doctor's remark, prompting Lyndsay to shoot her friend a sharp, meaningful glare. If Lyndsay weren't stuck in that bed, she surely would have given her friend a painful pinch on the thigh.
A few moments later, the doctor and the father of her child spoke seriously. She noticed him nodding occasionally as the doctor explained things and wrote down prescriptions.
It was strange to think that the child she was carrying might actually have a father to call its own, but she didn't want to dream of anything more than that.
The baby was the only thing she truly dreamed of. Moreover, she still couldn't fathom why this man had found her, especially since she had no intention of forcing him to take responsibility for what happened between them!
"My God, what is this man's plan for me?" she whispered intensely to herself.
