They were well past the city limits before Æquana felt some sense of relief, although she was aware of Talon glancing in the rearview mirrors with more frequency than usual.

"Where are you taking us?"
"For the moment, to the Emporium. Buck, I need to you pack a suitcase. No telling how long this siege will last, so I"m taking you and Maja to some place safe until this blows over." He glanced over at where his grandfather was sitting in the rear passenger seat, behind her. "Are those hunting rifles loaded?"
"Yep," Buck answered. "Just cleaned and primed them last week. Johnny, do you think it"s wise for us to be going back there?"
