The Proposal

*warning abusive content* (Emma) Carter wants us to meet at his restaurant for dinner tonight, and for some reason I feel so much dread about seeing him again. I managed to avoid him the rest of the day at the office, burying myself in my work, answering calls and setting up appointments for the Alpha and his son. I stare at my closet, trying to decide what to wear for dinner tonight. I look up and down the rows of vibrant and beautiful clothes. I settle on a soft white lace dress that flows to my knees and a pair of tan leather wedges. Entering my bathroom, I turn on my curling iron and start adding gentle amounts of makeup to my face. My tan skin is smooth and clear, so a few dabs of foundation and blush is all it needs to look perfect. I add clear gloss to my lips and gold shades of eye shadow, completing the natural look. My hair is pinned up in a loose bun, and I curl a few strands and look at myself in the mirror. Satisfied with my very subtle but graceful outfit for tonight, I trot out of my bedroom and head across the hall to my mother’s room. “Hey mom you almost ready to go?” I spot her in front of her vanity, styling her sorrel colored hair in a high ponytail. The resemblance between my mother and I is uncanny. She quite literally looks like an older version of me, even our eyes are the same shade of green. She’s wearing a simple black dress, with matching heels and jewelry. “Almost there Em, just trying to get this Smokey eye right.” She says, holding her mouth wide open and dabbing dark eyeshadow on herself. Despite being 21, I never wanted to move out. My mom and I are extremely close, with my dad gone we’re all each other have. She finishes getting ready and we leave our small cottage that’s only a few blocks from the beach. The salty brisk air sends shivers up my spine as we pile into my mom’s little gray car. We arrive at the restaurant and Mom squeezes my hand on our way up the sidewalk. “I wonder what’s so important the alpha has asked us both to dinner with his family.” She says, shooting me a wink. She’s been more impatient for Carter to propose than me, always bringing it up when he comes over. “I’m sure he just wants to spend time with us since I’ve been dating Carter for so long. Don’t get your hopes up. I’m not his mate, just a girl he’s dating.” I tell her. It was true, I wasn’t his mate but according to Alpha Jeremy I was the smartest choice. Carter wasn’t getting any younger, most of them find their mates fairly early after their first shift, and almost always find a mind by their 21st birthday.Carter is 24 now, the pack needs him to have a Luna. He isn’t a great leader on his own, and Alpha thinks having a witch with a strong bloodline like me as his wife will keep everyone in line. We enter the quiet dining room and are escorted to a private table where Jeremy, his wife Susan, and Carter wait. When Carter sees me he smiles and stands, greeting me with a kiss on the cheek. Alpha Jeremy pulls the seat out for my mother then tucks her gently into the table as his son does the same for me. Susan’s eyes shoot daggers at Jeremy, even if his gestures were just to be polite, she hated the attention he gives my mother and I. “Good evening Doctor Scott, it’s so nice to see you and your.. lovely daughter.” Susan says to my mother, clearly faking a smile as she glances at me. My mother senses her distaste for me and flashes an equally snarky look back. “Always a pleasure to be in the presence of such a strong family, and I just love seeing your only son with my beautiful daughter on his arm.” Her voice holds arrogance and Jeremy coughs uncomfortably. Susan opens her mouth to speak but Jeremy interrupts. “I’m sure you’re all wondering what the special occasion is and why Carter and I have called you all here tonight. Let’s order some food and then we’ll get to that.” He snaps his fingers and a waitress appears. “I’ll have the steak and shrimp, with the sauce on the side.” My mother orders, and I say the same. “Are you sure you really want to order that Emma? Your already looking a little.. bloated.” Susan says, curling her nose and looking at my arms. I blush instantly and look towards Carter to correct his mother for speaking so rudely to me. But instead he tells the waitress to bring me a salad and water, not what I originally ordered. My cheeks and ears feel like they’re on fire and my mother wants to say something but knows it’s not wise to argue with the pack’s Luna. She could make our lives miserable. Susan has never approved of our relationship, not many people do, and she’s always been the type to get her way, so her inability to control Carter has rubbed her nerves the entirety of our relationship. We all have some small talk while we wait for our food, which is brought out rather quickly. As we eat, I keep shooting looks at Carter, who seems very on edge tonight. After a few moments of silence, Jeremy wipes his face and places his napkin on the table. “So as you know, Carter is turning 25 soon and that means he’ll be taking over the pack as Alpha. In order for an Alpha to rule properly he needs a Luna. Since he and Emma have been dating for quite some time now, I believe Carter has something he’d like to ask her.” Carter clears his throat and drops to his knee before me. My breathing catches in my throat, but I think it’s from fear rather than excitement. “Emma, my beauty, my grace, I’m asking you today to be my wife, my chosen mate, and this pack’s future Luna. Since the first time we went out I knew you were my perfect match, even if the moon goddess didn’t pair our souls, I know your the right woman for me, for this pack.” He pulls out a small box from his pocket. “Will you marry me?” He asks, flashing a very large diamond ring at me. Susan speaks before I can. “Jeremy seriously? Her? He should wait for his fated mate. This girl may be powerful but she is not right for my son. She dresses like a rainbow spit on her, she’s constantly giggling and laughing like a child, thinking her charm will get her whatever she wants. Carter deserves a real woman as his mate. This pack deserves a Luna with Wolf blood, not some witch!” She slams her hand on the table. Her words take me by surprise and I’m left sitting with my mouth wide open. I look around the table and everyone seems frozen with shock. Their eyes flash between me and Susan, unsure of what to do. I look at Carter, who looks as if he wants to murder his mom. Susan is glaring at me, and my mother reaches for my hand but I pull away. My lungs feel as if there’s not enough oxygen in the room, my heart racing faster and faster. I can’t handle the pressure of everyone’s gazes and I leap up from my seat and practically run for the front door. “Emma, honey wait!” My mother calls for me. “Don’t worry Ms. Scott, I’ll go after her.” I hear Carter say as I throw myself out the door and into the alleyway, my breathing’s shallow and I’m feeling as though I might pass out. I lean against the building’s brick wall between two dumpsters and take deep slow breaths. My eyes flutter shut as I count to ten inside my head. Air starts returning to my lungs and the dizziness fades. Suddenly there’s a hand around my neck and I’m shocked to find Carter towering over me, his face distorted with rage. “How dare you leave me in there by myself waiting for you to accept my proposal. Don’t you ever leave me at a dinner like that again.” He snarls , squeezing slightly and my entire body begins to shake with terror. “I-I’m sorry babe. She caught me by surprise and I didn’t want anyone to see me cry, I only-“ he cuts me off with a menacing growl. “If you can’t handle my mother being a b***h then what makes you think you could handle being a Luna? Get your sh*t together Emma. My dad really wants this marriage to work before he’ll hand me that title and nothing is going to stop that. Especially not a trembling witch with no backbone.” He grabs my cheeks and kisses me roughly. The taste of him makes me want to vomit. “My mom is such a b***h, always ruining everything,” he says before devouring my mouth again. I try to kiss back, hoping he won’t hurt me but I’m so filled with fear it’s hard to get any part of me to move. His anger blends into l**t and he grabs my waist roughly, pulling me into his now hard bulge. “This will be quick, I want you going in there smelling of my c*m, I want to make my mother sorry for what she just said.” Carter whispers in my ear and he quickly undoes his pants, lifting my dress and holding me against the wall. “Carter please stop, I don’t want to do this. I’m upset and your hurting me.” He laughs a little as he settles himself against my opening. “You don’t get to deny me, you’re mine now. Besides, you’re only saying that to tease me, I can feel your body trembling for me.” He lifts my butt against the wall, pushes inside me and groans in pleasure. I close my eyes and tears begin to pour. With every thrust I can feel something inside me break more and more, until finally I feel him throb and a warmth I’ve never felt before fills me, along with panic. “Carter please tell me you didn’t just do what I think you did.” I say, my voice barely audible as he sets me down and begins fixing himself. All the anger he had just moments ago gone. “Of course I did, we’re engaged now, no time to waste on having a baby. You have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to fill you up like that.” He purrs into my ear. “I’m getting hard again just thinking about filling that pretty p**sy like a Twinkie again. Maybe you should stay in my room tonight.” I’m unable to make words and he pulls my panties up for me and fixes my dress. “Let’s go, no more tears, let’s be happy now.” He says as if nothing happened. I follow him numbly back towards the front door and he stops and faces me. “Here, put your ring on. Let’s go tell them the good news.” We both take our seats and I can see his mother and father’s noses twitch and look between the two of us. My cheeks flush from embarrassment and I fiddle with the table cloth. Susan makes a disgusted face when she realizes what she’s smelling in me, whereas his father looks alarmingly proud. Jeremy’s response makes my stomach lurch again, and I feel betrayed by him. My heart aches as Carter announces that we’ll be getting married after his birthday and then have the Alpha ceremony that night. Our parents discuss the details while I stare at my plate, trying not to vomit on the table as I feel his seed leaking out of me onto my underwear. I never said yes to anything that’s happened to me tonight, yet nobody seems to care. If this is what marrying Carter holds for me, I’m not sure I want it anymore.
