Chapter 4 The Pull

786 Words
Liana doesn’t sleep well that night. Every time she closes her eyes, she sees him. The way he stands in that dimly lit room. The way his voice lowers when he speaks to her. The way he steps back… instead of forward. It doesn’t make sense. Men like Adrian Cole don’t hold back. Men like him take what they want. So why didn’t he? Morning comes too quickly. Liana sits at the edge of her small bed, staring at nothing, her thoughts tangled. The room is quiet, but her mind still on the scene that occured last night. She exhales and rubs her temples. “It doesn’t matter,” she mutters to herself. He’s just her boss’s boss. A powerful man with too much time and curiosity. That’s all. It has to be. But by the time night falls again, she knows for a certain. She’s lying to herself. The club is alive as always. Music pulses, lights flash, people laugh but Liana feels disconnected from it all. Her movements are graceful as usual as she serves drinks, but her mind elsewhere. Or rather… On someone. She hates it. “Liana.” She stiffens. That voice again. Slowly, she looks up. Adrian. Standing right where he always stands. Watching her like he never stopped. Her heart skips. Why does he keep coming back? “Red wine?” she asks before he can speak, trying to regain some control. A faint smirk touches his lips. “You’re learning.” She ignores the comment, turning to pour the drink. But this time… Her hands don’t shake. Not as much. “You left quickly last night,” Adrian says. She places the glass in front of him. “I finished my job.” “That’s all it was to you?” She pauses. The same question again. Why does he keep asking that? “Yes sir,” she says, though it comes out softer than she intends. Adrian studies her. Longer this time. Like he’s trying to read between her words. “You’re thinking about it,” he says. Her eyes snap back to his. “I’m not,” she replies quickly. “Liana.” The way he says her name Low and certain. It sends a strange warmth through her chest. “You are, quite.…,” he continues. She exhales sharply, placing both hands on the counter. “Why does it matter to you sir?” she asks, frustration slipping through. That makes him pause. Just for a second. “Because you’re different.” The answer is simple. But it hits harder than she expects. Liana blinks, caught off guard. “Different how?” she asks quietly. Adrian leans slightly closer, his voice dropping just enough for only her to hear. “You don’t try to impress me.” She catches her breathe. “I don’t need to sir ,” she replies before she can stop herself. A bold answer. Bolder than she feels. For a moment, Adrian just looks at her. And then A small, genuine smile appears on his handsome face. Almost unnoticeable. But it changes his entire face. And Liana notices. “Good,” he says. Just one word. But it lingers. The night goes on, but something shifts between them. The tension is still there. Strong as ever. But now… it’s different. Less fear. More awareness. More… curiosity. Adrian doesn’t stay as long this time. He finishes his drink, sets the glass down, and stands. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” he says. Liana watches him walk away. And for the first time She doesn’t feel relieved. She feels… disappointed. Later that night, as she walks home under the soft glow of streetlights, her thoughts refuse to settle. Why is she thinking about him like this? Why does his presence affect her so much? He’s dangerously handsome. Completely out of her world. And yet. She can’t deny it anymore. There’s something pulling her toward him. Something she doesn’t understand. Something she might not be able to stop. Back in his mansion, Adrian stands by the window once again. But this time He’s not thinking about his past relationship. He’s thinking about her. The way she challenges him without trying. The way she looks at him without expectation. The way she doesn’t belong in his world… yet somehow fits perfectly in it. He exhales slowly. This isn’t just curiosity anymore. And that realization is dangerous. Because Adrian Cole doesn’t do feelings. He controls them. Suppresses them. Destroys them before they become a weakness. But Liana, … Is already becoming one. How he wants to caress her beautiful face Taste her strawberry looking lips. Do justice to her twin peaches, sucking, licking and flicking them.
