DAMIEN'S POV::
I'd gently torn my clothes off my skin and slowly descended into a stream I stumbled on while taking a walk. As soon as my legs came in contact with the water, a massive surge of energy ran through my veins.
It was so immense, my skin bowed to the intensity. I knew what that meant; China had come alive!
I felt a mixture of anger and excitement.
China, my wolf, had gone quiet for years now, and it had troubled me greatly. I am known to be fiery, bloodthirsty and merciless. Every human, dead or alive, trembled at the mention of my name.
I am the Alpha King, feared and respected by all. Many respect me out of fear, since I am rumored to have wiped out every Alpha that existed before me.
Very few who had seen me in my wolf form lived to tell the tale. No one dared look directly into my eyes. Once, a father slayed his son in order to protect him from me, knowing I would have gone about in the most brutal way possible.
I slayed the most powerful of Alphas because China was the most supreme wolf alive. China was bestowed upon me by the moon goddess herself. Without him, I was an ordinary, vulnerable human.
Yet, he had suddenly vanished and hard as I tried to reach out to him, he never reacted nor responded. Two years had passed, yet no day went by without me trying to compel China to rear its head. I've been very quietly dying, knowing that it would mean instant death for me if anyone had gotten wind of the fact that I was wolfless. No one wanted to kill me, only because they were too scared to try. I'm not loved, I am feared.
Because those who haven't seen or have heard what I can do and what I can do is only possible because my wolf is a force to reckon with. Yet, he had deserted me.
So why was he suddenly springing back up now and not even with a sorry attitude?
And what was this foreign scent that just hit me, evoking an uproar of excitement inside of me? It was extremely tantalizing and inviting. Every one of my senses stood alert. I wanted more than anything to get entangled in it.
I sprang out of the stream, a sharp contrast to me slowly walking into it seconds ago. I sharply began to match in the direction of the irresistible fragrance. I could hear China urging me to walk faster and, as much as I didn't want to do his bidding, I lost any will to do otherwise. I loved what I was perceiving and was just as eager to see it.
I didn't ever imagine it like this; that I'd be interested in other things rather than question China seriously about why he ditched me for two years straight.
I forged ahead, my head in the game. The scent pulled me in, like a red rag to a bull.
The sole of my feet slapped the earth in a fast offbeat temp as I drew nearer and the smell fanned stronger.
Until I was right in front of its source.
"Mate! Mate!! Mate!!!'' China kept screaming my head off while I watched in anger and horror as two pitbulls were on her as though she were their plaything.
The dogs noticed me and immediately made a run for it while a blonde girl at the far end, who appeared to have sent the dogs, made inaudible sounds and bowed her face to the earth.
I was seething with anger and rage as I watched my mate covered in blood and bite marks. My eyes darkened, the spark of warmth I felt minutes ago instantly shadowed by an ominous enforcement as rage consumed me. A series of turbulent emotions swirled within me and in that moment, all I wanted to do was kill for this person.
I felt my heart crack when my eyes settled on her face and I noticed that she thought my fury was directed at her. She thought I was going to hurt her? Can she not feel what I'm feeling? My body was literally vibrating from all the emotions I was feeling for her, my wolf called out loudly to her, my heart screamed in acceptance, my skin wanted badly to be one with hers, but as my hands reached out for her, she cowered and dragged herself farther from me, all the while maintaining eye contact. She looked so frail, like she was dying.
She was covered in sores, bruises and blood.
I could no longer contain my resentment. I drew out my claws and in a split second, I was done tearing both dogs into a million pieces.
I looked back at my mate, expecting to see satisfaction etched on her face, all I needed for encouragement was to tear the blonde girl apart next.
But instead, I watched her stare back at me in horror. She muttered incoherent words that I couldn't pick out, even with my extraordinary hearing ability, before very slowly raising her hands and waving them frantically at me, as if begging me not to come closer.
Hot tears flowed down her face and she started to crawl away from me.
I took a few involuntary steps towards her and caused her to spring up to her feet in a bid to flee from me. However, she fell as swiftly as she had ascended. She let out a bone-chilling scream as she grabbed hold of her legs.
I rushed to her side and held her in my arms. My heart was overwhelmed with love for this young woman. It was killing me to watch her cry so much. I could feel my heart hurting. There was a profound connection that bounded her soul with mine.
She was groaning in what seemed like an unbearable pain while holding firmly onto her legs. I looked down at her legs and I couldn't believe my eyes. I shook my head, brought my face closer to her feet just to be sure I was seeing correctly, and I could still see shards of shattered glass impaling the sole of her foot and emerging through the other side.
With trembling hands, I touched them to be sure they actually were glass, and they grazed my thumb and still, I stared at my thumb, still in doubt if that was actually blood. There were at least fifty glasses orderly arranged into a foot.
I could feel anguish reverberate through my veins at the realization that someone had put my mate through that much torture.
My hands trembled with fury, my heart burned with an intensity fueled by love, hate and protectiveness, ready to unleash my wrath upon those who dared harm her.
"Who did this to you???!," I growled at the top of my lungs as China immediately took over my body ready to kill everyone in this damned pack.
