He fell silent for a few seconds. "Fine. From now on, to me, she's nothing more than a commodity that makes money."
And yet for the sake of that very commodity, he had secretly divorced her and remarried, turning her into a colossal joke.
Everything he had given her, he could just as unreservedly give to another woman.
At that moment, the icy heart that had only just begun to warm shattered completely.
By the time Violet walked out, they were already gone.
Her assistants gathered around her. "Violet, are you okay?"
Another assistant pulled out a check. "This was hush money from Mr. Morrow's assistant. They still don't know you're the owner of the studio... This money is honestly humiliating. Should we take it?"
"Yes."
A mocking smile curled at Violet's lips. "Why shouldn't we? With this ten million dollars as the studio's operating capital, I can leave without worry."
Her assistant paused. "Where... are you going?"
Violet looked at her, tightening her grip on the phone in her bag. Smiling, she said with a sense of release, "To Africa. I'm going to be a wildlife photographer."
Back when she got married, several friends in the photography world had wanted to bring her into the International Society of Nature Conservation Photographers.
With Violet's skill behind the camera, getting in would not have been difficult. It was just that... she and Raymond would have had to spend long stretches apart.
Raymond's love for her was so intense that even in his sleep, he had to keep their fingers tightly intertwined. How could he possibly have let her leave?
She had once struggled between her dream and love, and in the end, she had chosen the latter.
But today, she finally realized just how terribly wrong she had been.
Fortunately, it was not too late.
Just moments ago, she had asked her friend to prepare the application materials, and the application had already been successfully submitted.
The two assistants exchanged a glance. After a moment of silence, they spoke with difficulty. "...Violet, have you really thought it through? Life on the African savanna must be hard."
Violet let out a soft laugh.
So what if it was hard?
What she wanted was freedom. What she wanted was for Raymond to never find her again for the rest of his life.
Violet spent the entire day at the studio sorting out work, and by the time she finished, it was already deep into the night.
The moment she opened the front door, a burst of confetti exploded by her ear. More than a dozen servants spoke in unison, "Happy sixth wedding anniversary! May Mr. Morrow and Mrs. Morrow grow old together and be united in life and death!"
The moment their voices fell, Violet was suddenly pulled into Raymond's arms.
His voice was hoarse, as though he had smoked countless packs of cigarettes. "Vivi, where have you been? Today... is our wedding anniversary."
Only after breaking free from Raymond's embrace did Violet notice that the living room of the villa was piled high with new-season clothes and handbags from luxury brands, while the lavish meal on the dining table had already gone cold...
Raymond's hands were covered with bandages of every size, and his eyes were swollen red. "I didn't let the servants help. I made every dish myself, Vivi. I waited for you all night."
Looking at how deeply in love with her he seemed, Violet was speechless for a moment, as if the betrayal she had witnessed that morning had been nothing more than an unreal dream.
And then the perfume on Raymond, the scent that belonged to Winona, dragged her back to reality in an instant.
She smiled bitterly. "I'm sorry. I went out to the countryside for a shoot today and forgot to prepare a gift."
"It's okay."
Raymond hugged her with quiet satisfaction. "As long as you're by my side, that's the greatest gift I could have. Last time, you said you wanted to photograph whales. Tomorrow I'll take you out to sea. This will be the most unforgettable sixth anniversary of our lives."
