Chapter 4

Back then, she had known nothing and had even been delighted. "You really do have good taste. I like them. But Raymond... didn't you always hate flashy colors like this? You designed our wedding rings yourself back then. What, did you get tired of the old style?" Raymond had smiled faintly. "Yes. I got tired of it." Violet lowered her head and looked at the streak of blue on her own ring finger. It felt as if she had been slapped hard across the face. The pain in her heart cut like a blade, so intense she could barely breathe. She was the extra one. She was no longer Raymond's wife. The number on the check was the shared property of Raymond and Winona as husband and wife. Violet forced down the bitterness surging in her throat and slipped the check into her pocket. "It's enough. I'll do the shoot." During the photo session, whenever Winona got tired, she returned to the cabin for coffee and cake. But Violet could only stand out on the sun-scorched deck, constantly adjusting props and lighting. After a full three hours, she was nearly collapsing from exhaustion. And yet Winona kept saying none of the photos were good enough. In the end, she climbed onto the yacht's railing. Violet kindly warned her that it was dangerous. Winona's cherry lips pouted, and tears instantly welled up in her eyes. "Raymond, look at Violet! Wasn't today supposed to be about making my wish come true? Why can't I even choose my own poses?" Raymond smiled indulgently, not even glancing at Violet. "Vivi, just let her do it. Nothing will happen..." Before he had even finished speaking, Winona lost her balance and toppled backward. In the instant she fell, she grabbed Violet's clothes with a death grip. Before Violet could even react, she and Winona plunged together into the vast sea! The camera slipped from Violet's hand and slammed against the side of the yacht. The strap wrapped tightly around her wrist, and the rebounding camera struck her forehead hard again. A violent pain shot through her skull. In the next second, freezing seawater surged at her from all sides, flooding her mouth and nose. Without a moment's hesitation, Raymond leapt into the sea, followed closely by a group of bodyguards. He swam desperately toward her. "Vivi, hold on!" Wave after wave crashed over her head. Already drained of strength, Violet no longer had the energy to struggle. All she could do was call out weakly, "Raymond..." "Mr... Mr. Morrow!" A terrified shout suddenly rang out from the yacht. "Another shark! It's swimming this way! Hurry!!" The moment he heard that, Raymond, who had been just about to grab Violet's hand, suddenly changed direction. Under Violet's stunned gaze, he swiftly pulled Winona to safety instead. In the next instant, a shark burst out of the water with its jaws wide open! Violet had no strength left to struggle. In despair, she closed her eyes and waited for death to come. At that split second, a large hand yanked her away. The shark's sharp teeth caught her forearm and tore away a chunk of flesh, the pain so intense Violet nearly blacked out. But fortunately, she survived. The people on the yacht were still reeling in shock. Winona was trembling all over, too frightened to say a single word. Raymond held her tightly, wiping the blood from her body again and again. His brows were tightly drawn together, fury and heartache intertwining. His voice was low, but carried an icy edge. "Who did this? Who brought the shark here? Who... hurt her?" The bodyguards answered shakily, "Mr. Morrow, the blood on Miss Underhill isn't hers... It was Mrs. Morrow's blood that drew the shark. She hit her head, and the shark bit off a piece of her flesh..."
