CHAPTER 8

Aira came running to the kitchen. Her blue eyes were wide searching for danger. She looked battle-ready with a blade in her hand, just the way she looked when principal sir wanted to talk to her. She saw my mom lying unconscious and she shoved the blade back in her pocket. She sat down next to my mom. "Can you get me my phone? I need to call an ambulance." I said with tears rolling down my cheeks. "No, she needs your blood quickly. We don't have much time". "What? My blood?" "Yes, Radhika your blood. Don't waste time. Give me your hand fast." There was too much adrenaline in my body for me to think straight. I would have given my life if that meant my mom will be safe the next second. Aira was holding my mom's hand which to my surprise was blue and the blue hue was visibly increasing. Without a second thought, I gave her my hand. I had never heard of or seen any such case. She took out her blade."Now, this is going to hurt but don't worry you will live." She made a four inches long cut on my palm. She placed my palm in front of my mom's mouth. She opened her mouth by pulling down her jaw and let my blood flow in her mouth. A disgusting wave of nausea hit me. I was in too much panic to do anything myself. I was just glad someone was here with me though I didn't trust her with anything. I was out of options. She didn't move after a minute and I realized I was being mad. What was I thinking? That somehow my blood will make my mom conscious again? That somehow this new girl who disappeared from the school will want to help me. I realized my stupidity and snatched my hand back from Aira's grip. "What are you doing? My god, you are mad. You want to kill us both. Oh MY GOD, she is not moving. I need to call for an... Just when I was about to lose my temper and my sanity my mom's hands started moving. She clenched her fists tightly. "Mom? Mom are you alright? Mom?..."She opened her eyes and slowly blinked out the dizziness. The blue hue was visibly receding now. I felt the weight of the world lift from my shoulders. I helped her sit up with her back to the kitchen wall. My blood was spilled all over her clothes and mine too. I was still bleeding but I didn't care. She looked at me and then my hand and gasped. She was worried I was hurt. Only moms can care so much about their children after they were themselves lying unconscious. "Radhika you are bleeding. What did you do? " Her voice seemed a bit heavy and she was breathing heavy but she was fine. I started grinning with tear-stained cheeks. "I am alright mom. What happened to you?" She looked surprised. "I...I don't know. I took out the lunch from your bag and I found that box with it. I was going to keep the lunch in the sink meanwhile I opened the box and there was this blue pendant. I touched it and I don't know after that everything started blacking out." She pointed towards the necklace lying on the floor along with the lunch box and the necklace's case. She got up on her feet slowly and she looked too good for a person who was just lying unconscious. Then she turned around and saw her face in the glass on the window and freaked out. "Why is there blood on my face and clothes and why are you bleeding? What is this metallic taste?... Is it blood? What did you do Radhika?" She looked confused and worried. I didn't know what to tell her. That Aira saved you by feeding you my blood? I wasn't even sure if my blood really saved her. What was that blue color on her hand? All traces of it were gone now. "Mom I... "Wait let me handle this," Aira said placing her hand on my shoulder. I was confused about what she meant by it but I had no options other than to tell her the weird truth. I stepped aside and Aira took my place a little too close to my mom. She raised her arms and placed both her palms on either side of my mom's head. Mom looked confused for a second but then her expression became neutral. Her eyes became wide open. After a few seconds, they were shining blue. Aira was definitely doing something. My mom was staring into Aira's blue eyes and she was not even blinking. There was an unbroken spell and I could feel the energy radiating from all this. It strangely felt familiar.
