At first, Emilia had assumed when travelling back to their present time they would return to exactly the same moment as when they’d left. It was possible to do that, but according to Seb it was best to allow the same number of hours to have elapsed as the time spent in the earlier time period. Which made sense when she thought about. If she kept returning to exactly the time she’d left she would end up aging more rapidly in her own time, since her body was still putting in the extra days and hours in an alternate time. So it was after midnight when they materialised back in Ithaca. Not that she was tired; she was still jazzed from the adrenalin of Randolph’s pursuit.
