CHAPTER THIRTEENLindsey caught a PSA jet from SFO to Santa Barbara. After the damp chill of San Francisco, the transition to Santa Barbara’s balmy sunshine was like a flight from winter to summer. He rented a Renault Encore on International Surety and drove it into town. He found Cape ’n’ Dagger on State Street, the town’s main thoroughfare. It was a miniature of the one in San Francisco and occupied a glossy storefront between a perfectly preserved 1920s style movie theater and a bank. There were three people working in the store.
