5-The Game

Tara POV

It’s been a week since kai broke into my home and offered me a deal. And i have been ignoring going to school since then. Kim has helped me a lot, we managed to convince the principal to let me do my school work from home.

And i was surprised when she agreed. It was definitely because of kim but either way i was thankful.

The sound of music distracted me from my thoughts and i frowned in confusion, my parents said they were leaving early today. I got instant chills at the thought that kai could be in my home again.

I stood up and wrapped my silk black rope around my body and made my way out the room. As i opened my room door the music got louder and my heart started beating frantically, i tiptoed downstairs and snuck into the kitchen grabbing the first thing i could see; a pan.

I followed the music into the sitting area and i saw a silhouette ,i screamed and charged at the unknown intruder but before i could get close they spun around, with concern and confusion evident on their features.

“dad you almost gave me a heart attack”

He put the music off and turned his attention back to me

“sweetheart i’m not the one holding a frying pan”

My eyes fell on the pan, and i instinctively lowered it and sighed.

“you seem on edge are you okay?”

“i’m okay , i thought you guys left early”

“your mom decided to leave at noon , she wanted to talk to you”

“about what”

My father sighed and walked to me , he placed his warm hands on my shoulders and looked into my eyes.

“we worried about you sweetheart, you seem paranoid lately.”

Tears clouded my vision and my heart sunk. I threw my arms around his waist and cried on his chest . He wrapped his arms around me.

“did something happen at school? What is going on” he questioned. Concern lacing his tone

“i don’t want to go to that school anymore dad”

My father gently pushed me away from him and guided me to the couch.

“you have less then 2 months left of school and then you get to go to prom and graduation isn’t that what you have always wanted”

I nodded “the students hate me, i always get picked on because of my appearance”

My father sighed and gently placed his hands on my own.

“there is nothing wrong with your appearance, you are beautiful, you are so smart” he placed his hand on my chest.

“ and you have a pure heart, don’t let people try and take that from you. People are bitter and miserable with their own life,don’t allow them to take away your dream to fuel their sick ego’s”

I looked at my dad with glossy eyes that matched his own, i wanted to tell him about kai and his sick deal but another part of me was screaming at me , telling me not to do it. I decided to listen to it.

“do you really think i’m beautiful dad”

A lone tear ran down my father’s cheek.

“you are beyond beautiful tara”

I smiled at his words and hurled myself in his arms.

Unbeknownst to the father and daughter, tara’s mother stood at the kitchen with tears in her eye’s. She knew since tara turned 18 her and her husband were barely home, and they rarely spent time together like before.

She felt like a useless mother for not being there for her daughter. She walked towards them and wrapped her arms around them both as her tears fell uncontrollably. They stayed in that position for a long time.

I was chilling in the garden with my romance book and a smile plastered on my face as i read. The lead character ‘emily’ finally got married to romano, i squealed as a blush stained my cheeks

“you finally did it emily, you tamed the playboy”

I kicked my feet in the air as excitement took over. I was so happy for her. But i was also sad my book has reached its end. I fake cried as my heart shattered into two.

Now i have to find another book , that has to be just as good as this one. I laid flat on the perfectly green grass as i held my book close to my chest.

I wish i was emily ,she had a perfect life with a strong man by her side, willing to tear the world apart just to make her happy. She was everything i wanted to be . And me? I am weak i’ll never have what she has.

My eyes began to water the grass at the realisation that nobody will love me like romano loves emily. I swallowed the hard lump in my throat.

“tara” that deep scary voice that was the reason for all my nightmares forced me to sit up. My throat constricted and my entire body felt hot.

“what are you doing here kai” i questioned with a look of disbelief on my face.

“you have been ignoring me, and i don’t like being ignored” i stood up at his words and looked him in the eyes.

“i’m not going to do it kai. I refuse to accept your deal”

Anger flashed in his eyes and he balled his hands into a tight fist as he stalked his way towards her.

“i was being nice by giving you a choice but now i see how wrong i was” he grabbed her hair violently and forced her to meet his angry glare. Tears fell down her rosey cheeks as she looked into his dangerous eyes.

“you will accept my offer or i swear to the god of war i will kill your new friend” his eyes held malice and she looked at him in fear and shock.

“pl-please kai i-i’m begging you please don’t h-hurt her” his grip on her tightened and she yelled out in pain.

“do you f*****g accept” he yelled at her as he held onto her hair painfully

“ye-yes” he loosened his grip on her hair and brought his lips to her ears.

“now i’m going to take more than i bargained for” she shut her eyes tightly as a pained cry tore from her lips.

He let go of her hair with a sick smirk plastered on his face. He put his hands in his pockets and walked away but stopped with his back facing her.

“igry tol'ko nachalis' tara dzhenkins” he spoke with venom lacing his words and she couldn’t understand a word he just said. As he walked away from her leaving her both torn and helpless.
