Adrenaline coursed through my veins, my hands immediately finding the edge of the pond, as I quickly lifted myself out, taking my wolf form as soon as I was free of the water. My back paws ripped into the ground as I surged forward, red completely coating my vision. I felt my fangs sink deep into the flesh on the back of his neck, but, strangely enough, it felt as if I was the one who'd been bitten. A whimper escaped my mawl, causing me to release him, I turned quickly to ensure no one had attacked me, but no one was there, I didn't even smell anyone else, only me, and him. I looked back to him, I saw a bit of blood on the back of his neck, but not as much as there should have been, he was definitely a powerful alpha, the wound was already beginning to close. My upper lip pulled back, a snarl escaping through clenched fangs, my ears pointed, as the fur on my back bristled. Only then did I realize it, this wasn't the same wolf, his eyes were open now, they were brilliant, amber, like molten gold. They were nothing like the wolf who'd attacked me, these eyes were cold, but they weren't the eyes of a monster, they weren't bloodthirsty. More than that, these eyes, called to me, they were drawing me in, like a siren song.
He stared back at me the same way I was sure I was looking at him, but there was a bit of something else. Amusement? He stepped forward, but even in that small movement, there was such grace and power, I knew he could've killed me if he'd fought back. This wolf wasn't much larger than me, though it was obvious he had far more skill than I had, much more experience, when it came to being a wolf.
I stepped towards him as well, the rest of the world seeming to fall away, as I stared into those hypnotizing eyes. Our noses touched briefly, a warm, tantalizing jolt following the bit of contact. The spark flowed all through me, from literally the tip of my nose, to the tip of my tail, that was when I realized what my wolf had been howling since I first caught his scent. 'Mate!' My eyes went wide, my jaw falling slightly slack. How was it possible to find my mate, the first time I shifted? And for him to look so similar to the wolf who'd killed my mother. The game of fate truly was a twisted one, the wolf I am destined to spend my life with, looks almost identical to the one I've sworn to kill.
'You're, gorgeous.' I heard his voice. He must have wanted to make contact with me to form our bond, so we could speak without shifting into our human forms. His voice was deep, but breathy, with the rumble of a growl beneath. 'You're so strong, and fast, you attacked with such grace and power. How are you a rogue?' He asked.
His question brought back a few painful memories, but I tried to ignore them, as to not give him any disturbing mental images. 'I left my old pack, very recently, actually. I am the daughter of an alpha, do you know the Blood Moon pack?'
His head tilted to the side. 'Blood Moon? Yes, I know them, but, you're a little far from home aren't you? They're almost thirty miles from here.'
Were I in human form, I would've paled when he said that, even in wolf form I could practically feel the color drain from my face. 'Thirty miles?' I questioned. 'I ran, thirty miles, in one go?' I knew I'd run far, my father is an alpha, so he's incredibly fast as well, I didn't want him to catch me. But to run that far, in one go, even for us it was almost unheard of.
'You must be hungry, and thirsty, why not come with me? I'm sure you realize it, but, we're mates, I would never harm you, and I have food and drinks at my house.' He explained.
I was about to object, he may be my mate, but we only just met, I shouldn't go to his house, especially if he's the only one there. Though, just before I did, my stomach growled, as if to make an excuse as to why I should go with him.
I heard a chuckle through our link. 'Well, I guess that answers that.' He moved so that he was standing right beside me, as he brushed up against my side, tingles erupting over my skin. 'Its okay, you're safe with me. Besides, a nice walk in the forest would be a great way to get to know each other, right?'
'You look, like the wolf that killed my mother.' I thought, before realizing it'd went through our mind link. I hadn't meant to say that, but maybe a part of me wanted him to know why I was so withdrawn, defensive. It was commonplace for two wolves to mate the same time they meet, if they're mates. But here I was, wondering if I should even trust him, I knew I was justified in my paranoia, even though it felt wrong to fear him, I simply couldn't fight it.
I could feel his hurt through our link. 'I have never killed a female wolf who wasn't a rogue, I would never kill in cold blood.' He was being sincere, I could feel it, but I could also feel that he was hiding something, something painful.
I became defensive at the feeling that he was hiding something, so I stepped away, turning to face him. 'You're hiding something.' I stated firmly.
I heard, or more felt a sigh through our link, this was obviously a hard subject for him to broach. 'I didn't kill your mother, but, my brother may have.'
