12 For someone who’d just found the proverbial needle in a haystack, Sophia Castillo didn’t look all that happy. She brought Gabriel and Ava inside and back to the table where all the transcribed spells had been resting, then asked them to sit down. He could tell that Sophia had gone through a larger portion of the stack than he would have thought possible in the scant hour that he and Ava had been out in the garden, but possibly her magical gift of being able to read any spell, no matter how obscure, had also allowed her to read such spells more quickly than the average witch or warlock. “There is something,” she said, lifting one sheet from the stack so she could set it down on the table for all of them to see.
