It had been a little more complicated to transfer Gabriel’s room than Ava had expected, but after they’d spent the better part of a half hour getting Elena set up at the hotel, everything seemed to be squared away. At least her cousin actually had a state-issued I.D., if not a driver’s license. It was in her own name, but that was a risk they’d have to take. Ava supposed that Elena’s father and grandmother might try calling hotels in their search to locate their runaway. However, that sort of search could take them a very long time, considering how many hotels and motels and Airbnbs New Mexico’s capital city contained. And also, how would they even know she’d come to Santa Fe? She could have gone anywhere in New Mexico, since it was all Castillo territory.
