Reunion

Scene: Two days later at Paw Paradise. Maya is grooming a stubborn cat named Felix, who refuses to cooperate. Priya is busy playing on her phone nearby, providing absolutely no help. --- Felix (hissing): "HISSSS!" Maya (frustrated): "Felix, you little furball, if you don’t stop moving, I swear I’ll turn you into a meme!" Priya (laughing): "A meme? That’s your punishment plan? The internet will thank you for it." Maya (rolling her eyes): "You’re supposed to help me, not cheer for the enemy!" --- Felix swipes at Maya’s hand but misses. Maya (grinning): "Missed me, punk. Try again." Priya: "Maya, you really need a break. Or maybe a date. Preferably with someone who doesn't have claws." Maya (muttering): "Yeah, as if people without claws are any better." --- Before Priya can reply, the doorbell jingles. Maya glances up, expecting another customer with a goldfish emergency, but instead, in walks Arjun with Max trotting at his side. Maya (surprised): "You again?" Arjun (grinning): "You sound disappointed." Maya (smiling): "I’m just surprised Max hasn’t run away from you yet." --- Max, overjoyed to be back at the shop, charges toward Maya, nearly knocking over Felix's grooming table. Maya (laughing): "Careful, Max! You’ll turn Felix into a pancake." Priya (whispering): "The prince charming returns. I’ll leave you two lovebirds alone." Maya (groaning): "Priya, I swear—" Priya (winking): "Call me if you need a bridesmaid!" (She scurries off to the back, leaving Maya alone with Arjun and Max.) --- Maya (playfully): "So, what brings you back so soon? Missed the chaos already?" Arjun: "Actually, Max missed you. I think he’s in love." Maya (grinning): "Oh, great. Another hopeless romantic in my life." --- Max barks and circles around Maya, wagging his tail so hard that it looks like a propeller. Maya (teasing Max): "I knew you’d come back, buddy. I’m just that unforgettable, aren’t I?" Arjun (with a sly smile): "Don’t flatter yourself. He likes everyone with treats." Maya (pretending to be offended): "Ouch. And here I thought I was special." --- Arjun: "Kidding! Trust me, Max has good taste. He doesn’t wag his tail like that for just anyone." Maya (mock serious): "Well, now I feel honored." Arjun: "You should. Max’s approval means everything." --- They share a laugh, and for a moment, it feels like they’ve slipped into a comfortable rhythm, as if they’ve known each other for years. Maya (curious): "So, what do you do, Arjun? Besides spoiling Max and charming shop girls?" Arjun (grinning): "I run a marketing firm. But honestly, spoiling Max is a full-time job." --- Maya: "A marketing guy with a mischievous puppy. That’s a dangerous combination." Arjun (teasing): "And a shop girl with sarcasm? Equally dangerous." Maya (laughing): "Touché." --- Max suddenly jumps onto the counter, knocking over a jar of dog biscuits. Maya (sighing): "See? This is what happens when you bring chaos into my shop." Arjun (grinning): "I prefer to call it 'unpredictable charm.'" Maya (raising an eyebrow): "Is that what you tell your clients too?" --- Arjun (laughing): "Only the ones I like." Maya: "So, what’s the real reason you came back? Don’t tell me it’s just Max." Arjun (pausing for a moment): "Well, I couldn’t stop thinking about this place. And you." --- Maya (playfully): "Uh-oh. That sounds dangerously close to flirting." Arjun (with a wink): "What if it is?" Maya (grinning): "Then I hope you’ve got a better plan than just showing up with a cute puppy." --- Max barks loudly, as if demanding their attention again. Maya (laughing): "See? Even Max thinks you need a better game plan." Arjun: "Or maybe he just wants me to ask you out." Maya (raising an eyebrow): "Oh? And what makes you think I’d say yes?" --- Arjun (with a playful smile): "Because you haven’t kicked me out yet." Maya (laughing): "Fair enough. So, what’s your plan, Mr. Marketing?" Arjun (grinning): "How about coffee? No puppies, no chaos. Just us." Maya (pretending to think): "Hmm... I don’t know. What’s in it for me?" --- Arjun (smiling): "A great conversation, maybe some terrible jokes. And... a chance to find out if I’m as charming without Max." Maya (laughing): "Alright. You’ve got yourself a deal." Arjun: "Perfect. How about tomorrow?" Maya (teasing): "Depends. Are you planning to bring Max as a chaperone?" Arjun: "Only if you insist." --- Just then, Priya pops her head out from the back room, grinning like a Cheshire cat. Priya: "I heard 'coffee.' I’m proud of you, Maya!" Maya (groaning): "Priya, do you ever mind your own business?" Priya (laughing): "Never. But hey, if you need a double date, I’m available!" --- Maya (to Arjun, rolling her eyes): "See what I have to deal with?" Arjun (grinning): "I like her. She’s got spirit." Maya (laughing): "Yeah, well, you don’t have to work with her every day." --- Max barks happily, as if cheering for the blossoming friendship—or romance—between Maya and Arjun. Arjun (playfully): "Even Max approves. That’s two votes in my favor." Maya (smiling): "Looks like I’m outnumbered." --- As they laugh together, the doorbell jingles again. Maya’s heart skips a beat when she sees a tall, serious-looking man in a business suit standing at the entrance. Maya (whispering to Arjun): "Uh... Do you know him?" Arjun’s playful expression fades instantly, replaced by something colder, more guarded. Arjun (softly): "Yeah. I know him." --- Maya (concerned): "Arjun... Who is he?" Arjun (avoiding her gaze): "Someone I thought I left behind a long time ago." The man steps closer, his piercing gaze fixed on Arjun. Mysterious Man: "We need to talk. Now." --- Arjun (quietly to Maya): "I’ll explain everything. Just... not here." Maya nods, sensing that this conversation is far from over. Maya (softly): "Be careful, Arjun." --- Arjun gives her a reassuring smile, though the tension in his eyes tells a different story. Arjun: "I’ll be back, Maya. I promise." With that, he follows the man out of the shop, leaving Maya standing by the counter with Max at her feet. --- Priya (stepping out from the back, wide-eyed): "What just happened? Who was that guy?" Maya (softly): "I don’t know... But I have a feeling things just got complicated." --- Max whines softly, sensing the shift in the mood. Maya kneels down, stroking his head gently. Maya (whispering): "Don’t worry, Max. Your human will be back." --- As the door swings shut behind Arjun, Maya feels a strange mix of curiosity and concern swirling inside her. Maya (to herself): "What have I gotten myself into?" --- And with that, the day at Paw Paradise ends—not with the usual chaos, but with a lingering question that refuses to leave Maya’s mind. What secret was Arjun hiding? And more importantly... How much longer until he comes back? --- Max rests his head on Maya’s lap, as if offering silent comfort. Maya strokes his fur, lost in thought, knowing that this is only the beginning of something much bigger than she ever imagined.
