"Rowena."
"Get out of my room before I call the guards. Then our mother will find out you were here."
"This isn't right."
"It is right for me, and I don't care whether you approve of it or not. If you truly cared about me, you'd be happy for me instead of trying to stop me. Haven't you heard the rumors? Do you expect me to stay in this palace forever, sitting by the window watching the sunset while you go around f*****g women with the whole realm praising you? You're a f*****g bloody bastard. I hate you, and I never want to see you again."
"I'm only doing what's best for you."
"Get out!" I shouted. "Before I call the guards and let the people of the realms hear why you're in my room. Leave."
He clenched his fists, his jaw tightening before turning around and slamming the door behind him.
What a bastard.
I sighed and sat on my bed, bursting into tears.
Did he really think I enjoyed what was happening to me? Did he think I was happy about getting married?
My heart was overflowing with anger and bitterness.
Yes, I might be naive. I hadn't seen the outside world in years. I didn't care. I couldn't stay here any longer. It was pointless. He never cared about me.
No one cared when I cried for help.
Every time I begged to escape, he always promised he'd help me, but he never did. And now he suddenly wanted to rescue me from an old Alpha.
Who does that?
Was he even in his right mind? Had he gone mad?
I didn't care what he had to say. Everyone supported my wedding. Even the realms approved of it. So why was he the only one against it? Because he was an Alpha and thought I'd obey him just because he told me to?
Fuck that.
We weren't children anymore, and I wasn't his puppet. He was only older than me by three f*****g minutes. I never wanted to see him in my room again.
I abhorred him.
Consumed by rage, I reached beneath my pillow and grabbed a knife. My blonde hair turned white. I felt my power rushing back through my body.
My green eyes glowed with fury as I walked to the window.
I saw Griffith smiling while talking to one of his friends. A grin spread across my face. Blinded by rage, I threw the knife.
It shot through the air and buried itself in his back. Blood quickly soaked through his clothes.
He gasped in shock.
Everyone screamed in panic and rushed toward him to help.
A small sense of satisfaction washed over me. Without a single regret, I stepped away from the window. That should teach him never to interfere in my life again. At least that little attack wasn't enough to kill him.
I laughed hysterically.
He still hadn't suffered enough. Griffith had no idea what it meant to spend ten years locked inside a tower under constant guard.
One day, I'd cut off those fingers one by one.
This was only the beginning. I would make sure he paid. Slowly, I would torture him until he felt every bit of the pain I'd endured. He would know exactly how badly I'd been hurt.
My bones ached from the rage consuming my soul. He wouldn't get away with what he'd done to me.
He would pay with his life.
I would fill every remaining day of his life with suffering.
Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed through my back, as if someone had driven a knife into me.
I screamed for help before everything went black.
When I finally opened my eyes again, I had no idea how much time had passed. The royal physician insisted I remain in bed and get plenty of rest.
But all I could think about was my wedding day... and escaping this tower.
I never bothered to ask what had happened to Griffith. Not that I cared. He was a hybrid. Whatever injury he'd suffered would heal within minutes.
My only goal was to leave this place. The tower was slowly suffocating me. Why had I blacked out?
On the morning of the wedding, a dozen maids and stylists rushed into my chambers. They dressed me in the most exquisite wedding gown ever crafted and summoned the kingdom's finest makeup artist.
When they finished, I barely recognized the woman staring back at me.
For the first time in years…I smiled. Today, I would finally leave this prison. As I stepped out of my chambers, my smile vanished.
Mother stood waiting.
Her expression was colder than winter itself. Before I could greet her, her hand crashed across my face. I gasped, clutching my burning cheek.
"What do you think you're doing, Mother?"
"Why was your brother in your room a week ago?"
"What?"
"Did you think I wouldn't find out?" she hissed. "Because I spend time outside the realm, you assumed you could secretly invite your brother into your chambers? You shameless slut."
"He only came to check on me."
Griffith…I knew this would happen.
"You have no right to let him near you," she spat. "I have eyes everywhere in this palace. Try anything behind my back again, and I won't lock you in this tower." She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "I'll throw you into the darkest prison imaginable. You'll never see daylight again."
A cruel smile spread across her lips as she brushed invisible dust from my shoulders.
"Princess Rowena... today you're getting married."
My heartbeat quickened. Fear coiled inside my chest.
"Behave yourself," she continued sweetly. "Or I'll shave your head, smear blood across your scalp, and make you walk naked and barefoot through every kingdom if I hear even one more rumor about you and your brother."
She smiled.
"If you test me, you'll forget I'm your mother."
I swallowed hard.
"Yes... Mother."
Her eyes narrowed. "Are you still a virgin?"
"Yes..."
"I said answer me!"
"Yes!" I cried, trembling. "I'm still a virgin."
I couldn't wait to leave this place. Once I was gone… I'd never have to endure her again.
"Good."
She smiled with satisfaction before turning to the maids.
"Touch up her makeup. Then take her to her father. He'll present his beloved virgin daughter to the Alpha of the Knights."
"Yes, Your Highness."
The maids hurried to obey. Tears burned behind my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. Soon...This nightmare would be over.
Outside the grand wedding hall, I waited for Father to escort me down the aisle. He never even looked at me.
He remained seated upon his throne as though I didn't exist. One of his trusted advisors stepped forward.
"I'll escort the princess."
Before he could reach me, Griffith blocked his path.
