Chapter 9: Rise of the Sixth House*
Morning light spilled over Lunaris Academy, but the peace it brought was fragile—like a thin veil barely covering the storm beneath.
Lyra woke with the mark on her wrist glowing faintly, as if it never truly slept.
Kael was waiting for her by the courtyard fountain, eyes sharp and unreadable.
“We can’t stay hidden,” he said. “The Council knows you’re alive. They’ll send more Sentinels.”
Lyra nodded. “Then we need allies.”
“But who?”
Selene stepped from the shadows, cool and composed. “I’ve been listening.”
Lyra looked at her. “Why? Why now?”
Selene’s gaze was steady. “Because the balance is breaking. And because I believe you’re the key.”
Kael’s eyes narrowed. “You’re with them.”
“Not anymore,” Selene said quietly. “The Council’s grip tightens, and I won’t be a pawn.”
The three of them formed an uneasy alliance.
Together, they planned to find others like Lyra—members of the lost Sixth House, hidden in plain sight at Lunaris.
“There’s one place no one dares to enter,” Selene said. “The Catacombs beneath the school. If we can find the others, we might stand a chance.”
Kael’s jaw clenched. “Then we rise.”
Lyra touched the mark. “The Sixth House isn’t lost anymore.”
As the moon rose, the academy felt different—charged with possibility and peril.
The war had begun.
