Emily's thoughts were racing as she sat in startled stillness. The idea of being Liam Wright's fictitious fiancée was alluring, even though she had never been a drama queen. Finally, she looked Liam in the eye and asked, "What's in it for me?" Liam grinned. "I'll pay you a substantial amount of money, and I'll also help you boost your business." Emily paused, considering her options. Finally, she gave a nod. "Okay, I'll do it." A broad smile appeared on Liam's face. "Excellent," he replied with a tone of satisfaction in his voice. "I'll have my assistant draw up the contract." Trepidation gripped Emily as she nodded. What was it she had just gotten into? Emily had a wave of relief as Liam got up to leave. For now, at least, she was relieved to be free of him. However, Liam turned back to her just as she was ready to exhale in relief. His voice was low and threatening as he asked, "Oh, and Emily?" "Yes?" Emily asked, her pulse pounding. Her eyes were fixed on Liam's. "Keep in mind that this is a commercial agreement. Avoid becoming overly attached. As Liam's words lingered in the air, Emily felt a shiver go down her spine. What was he trying to say? Emily couldn't help but worry about what she had just gotten herself into as Liam left the office. As Emily got ready for her new job as Liam's fictitious fiancée, the following few days flew by. She met with Rachel, his assistant, to go over the specifics of the contract. Her eyes widened in surprise as Emily read the contract. Although Liam was giving her a sizable sum of money, there were also some very strict conditions. "You have to be available to Liam at all times," Rachel stated firmly. "And you have to maintain a certain image." Emily nodded, rather uncomfortable. This was beginning to resemble a prison sentence more and more. However, Emily understood that this could be a huge chance for her firm, and the money was too enticing to ignore. So, with some apprehension, she signed the contract. Emily couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead as she left the office. Emily's phone rang just as she was beginning to feel more at ease. "Hello?" she asked in a hesitant tone. "Emily, it's Liam," he stated in a silky voice. "I need you to meet me at the hotel at 8pm tonight." Emily felt her heart race faster. What was it Liam desired? "I'll be there," she finally answered, attempting to sound composed. Emily wondered what the evening would bring as she hung up the phone. Then Emily's doorbell rang, just as she was beginning to feel uneasy. She stood up, apprehensive, to respond to it. Emily's eyes widened in surprise as she opened the door. Liam's business adversary, Victor Vex, was in the doorway. "Emily, we need to talk," he continued in a threatening, low voice. Victor's eyes seemed to stare right into Emily's, sending a shiver down her spine. What was it he desired? Emily became aware that she was in serious danger as she stood there, paralyzed by panic. As Victor Vex entered Emily's flat, his gaze seemed to pierce her soul. "What do you want, Victor?" Despite the terror that was mounting inside of her, Emily tried to sound cool as she asked. With malicious glints in his eyes, Victor grinned. "I want to warn you about Liam Wright," he stated. "He's not what he seems." Emily squinted her eyes. "What are you talking about?" Victor grinned more broadly. "Liam Wright is a cunning business person who will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. Additionally, he wants to utilize you to promote his personal agenda. As Victor's words lingered in the air, Emily felt a shiver go down her spine. Was he being truthful? Emily was left speechless and perplexed when Victor turned and left the flat before she could ask any more questions. Emily's phone rang once again as she struggled to comprehend what had just transpired. "Hello?" she asked in a hesitant tone. "Emily, it's Liam," he stated in a silky voice. I'm a bit behind schedule. Instead, may we meet at the hotel at 9 p.m.? Emily was uncertain about what to do, so she waited. She was afraid of what might happen if she confronted Liam about Victor's claims, but she also wanted to do so. She finally said, "Okay, I'll be there," while attempting to sound composed. Emily wondered what the evening would bring as she hung up the phone. Then, as Emily was beginning to feel uneasy, her phone rang once more. "Hello?" she asked in a hesitant tone. The authoritative voice of Liam's assistant remarked, "Emily, it's Rachel." "I need to tell you something." Emily felt her heart race faster. "What is it?" Rachel paused, then said something. "I've been investigating Liam's past, and I think I've found something." Emily's gaze expanded. "What is it?" Rachel hardly raised her voice above a whisper. "Liam Wright is not who he says he is." As Rachel's comments lingered in the air, Emily felt as though her entire world had collapsed. What was she trying to say? The doorbell rang once again as Emily stood there, stunned. It was Liam this time. He looked directly into Emily's eyes and said, "I apologize for being late." However, Emily merely stood there, her terrified eyes wide. Because she had recently come to the realization that she was caught in a web of falsehoods and was unsure of how to get out. To be continued…
