Chapter One

“I’m extremely bored!” Simone cried out as she tossed herself onto the couch. “It’s been 6 months!”  “And it’s going to be 6 more!” Kira shot back. “We’re going to stay here and lay low until this entire thing dies down.” Zoie sneered. "Hilarious that you believe the present circumstance will simply disappear. No one will forget what we did on that day.” “We?” Kira asked as she shot up. Simone rolled her eyes and slid further down into the couch as she prepared to hear the same argument from her 2 youngest sisters who had been repeating it for 182 days. "Indeed." Zoie delicately replied. “We did nothing! It was all of you!” Kira exclaimed.  “You were the one who put the force field up, Kira. You trapped those people inside.” Zoie calmly replied. Kira stormed towards Zoie who sat in the recliner and held her hand up. Simone’s eyes widened at the sound of a slap. Quickly, she teleported towards her two sisters and grabbed Kira’s arm as Zoie sat in the chair holding her cheek. Simone wrinkled her eyebrows in confusion as the chimney lit up. “Do not sit there and blame me, Zoie! You are a murderer! You’ve killed many people and would’ve harmed many more if I didn’t put up that force field! I saved many lives that day so don’t you sit there and try to place the blame on me.”  “Touch me again.” Zoie threatened. “What are you going to do?” Kira taunted. “You’re powerless. You haven’t been able to do anything since that day!”  “Enough!” Simone exclaimed. “We’ve been stuck here for 6 months now and you two are still arguing. What happened has happened so get the f**k over it already! I’m sick of hearing the same petty argument.”  “Whatever.” Kira mumbled.  “Kira could’ve mind controlled everyone to forget.” Zoie yelled.  “No!” Kira stated. “I refuse to play mind tricks with their minds! I am not you!”  “Yet you didn’t seem to have a problem playing mind games with the landlord of this huge house. None of us have jobs so you mind controlled that man to allow us to live in this house free of charge.” Zoie replied.  “It was to keep us safe, Zoie!” Kira yelled. “There’s no neighbors or anything out here! We are away from everyone else and he won’t even tell the police that we are staying here because I’ve controlled him to keep his mouth shut!” “Listen, I cannot take being locked here another 6 months.” Simone began. “We’re going to have to face our problems regardless, Kira.”  “My God!” Kira cried out. “Don’t you think I know this? You want to know the real reason why I did this?”  “Yes!” Simone replied.  “Because of her!” Kira shouted as she pointed at Zoie. “If we step back into the public eye, they’re going after us. We are wanted! When we are caught, those people are going to take us all in, separate us, and treat us like test subjects. You and I could easily get out of that situation but Zoie cannot! She will not survive, Simone.”  Simone stood there for a minute before groaning. As much as she didn’t want to admit it, Kira was right. They were not only wanted in New York but worldwide by the American government and Zoie wouldn’t survive once they were separated from one another.  “Don’t allow me to hold you both back. Whatever happens to me is on me and no one else. I am not a child, alright? If you’re that concerned then place a force field around this house with me in it and leave.” Zoie muttered. Without saying another word, Simone and Kira watched as she walked out of the living room and upstairs.  Simone squinted her eyes. “I’ll say that it is boring with her being powerless now.”  Kira scoffed. “She tried killing us.”  “Yes but that was fun!” “There’s something very wrong with you.” Kira replied.  Zoie walked down the hallway as she shook her head to try and get the voices in her head to stop talking. What her siblings didn’t know was that she had her powers and they never left. After releasing the energy into the force field, Zoie felt like herself again and truly believed that the darkness inside her was gone — until she heard the music again. After hearing the familiar melody of Mr Sandman playing inside of her mind, Zoie could feel herself wanting to harm again. However, she controlled the feeling by not using her powers at all.  Sighing heavily, Zoie pushed the door to her bedroom open before slamming the door shut and locking it behind her. As she looked up, her eyes widened at the sight of a woman sitting on the edge of her bed. Her long brown hair flowed down her back as she looked at Zoie with beautiful blue eyes and a soft smile on her face.  “Mother?” Zoie called out.
