The elevator dinged, and the doors opened onto the ground floor. Courtney stepped out, hurrying toward the lobby doors. She could hear the rain starting to fall outside, and she didn't want to get soaked. But as she stepped out into the rain, she realized she had forgotten her umbrella.
She groaned in frustration, not wanting to get her work clothes wet. She looked around, hoping to find some sort of cover. But there was nothing nearby except for a few trees. She decided to make a run for it, hoping to Find a cab before she got too wet.
Courtney pulled out her phone, hoping to call a cab to pick her up from the office. But as she was dialing the number, the phone slipped out of her hand and landed in a puddle. She groaned in frustration, watching as the phone fizzled out and died. Now she was not only without an umbrella, but also without a phone.
She looked up at the sky, which was now pouring rain. She could feel her hair starting to get wet, and she knew her clothes would soon follow. Dwayne Just left the office and was driving out of the garage, his thoughts still on Courtney. He couldn't help but worry about her, wondering if she had found herself a cab before the rain started. Suddenly, he noticed a figure running down the street in the rain, their clothes soaked. As he got closer, he realized it was Courtney.
He immediately pulled over and rolled down the window. "Hey, Courtney!" he called out, getting her attention. "Do you need a ride?"
Courtney looked up, her eyes wide with relief. "Mr.Dwayne! Oh my gosh, thank you!" she said, quickly making her way to the car. "I was starting to think I'd never get out of the rain," she said, as she climbed into the passenger seat. "Thank you so much for stopping."
"No problem," Dwayne said, feeling relieved to see her safe and sound. "I was just on my way home and saw you running in the rain. I had to stop."
Courtney smiled. "You're a lifesaver," she said, laughing a little. "I must look like a drowned rat!"
Dwayne chuckled. "I wouldn't say that," he said, although he had to admit she did look.
The rain was now coming down in torrents, and the roads were starting to flood. Dwayne could see that the major roads were blocked off, and he knew there was no way he could make it home. He glanced at Courtney, who was looking out the window, her expression worried.
"Don't worry, I have a safe place we can go," he said, trying to reassure her. "It's a small cabin in the woods where I sometimes go to get away from it all. We can stay there until the storm passes."
Courtney nodded, grateful for his offer. "Thank you," she said, Courtney couldn't deny that she was a little bit nervous about spending the night with Dwayne in a secluded cabin. She had never been in such close quarters with him before, and she wasn't sure how she would react. But she also couldn't deny that she felt a bit of excitement, too. She had always been drawn to Dwayne, even though she had never admitted it to herself. Maybe this would be an opportunity to get to know him better, and to see if there was more to their relationship than just work.
As they drove to the cabin, the storm continued to rage outside.Dwayne pulled up to the cabin, which was nestled in a grove of trees. He parked his car as close to the door as possible, so they could make a run for it. "Ready?" he asked, opening the door.
Courtney nodded, clutching her bag to her chest. "Let's go!" she said, and together they ran through the rain and into the cabin.
Once inside, they both let out a sigh of relief. "That was a close one," Dwayne said, wiping the rain from his face.
"I'm just glad we made it in one piece," Courtney said From Courtney's perspective, the cabin was like something out of a fairy tale. It was a cozy log cabin with a thatched roof, nestled among tall pines. The windows were framed with shutters, and there was a front porch with a swing. Inside, the cabin was even more charming, with exposed beams and a stone fireplace. It was rustic, but cozy, and it felt like the perfect place to escape from the storm outside.
Courtney couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder as she took in the cabin's beauty. It was like something out of a storybook, and she couldn't believe that she was actually here. As she looked around, she noticed that the cabin had all the amenities they would need for the night. There was a small kitchenette, a bathroom, and a bedroom with a comfortable-looking bed. She was starting to feel a bit more relaxed, and she knew that she would be able to rest here.
Dwayne, meanwhile, was looking around the cabin with a sense of nostalgia. This was his happy place, the place where he could escape the pressures of work and just be himself. He was glad to have Courtney here with him, and he hoped that she would enjoy it as much as he will. As Dwayne pulled off his wet shirt, Courtney couldn't help but stare. His body was perfect, like something out of a magazine. He was toned and muscular, with just the right amount of definition. His skin was smooth and tanned, and his hair was still damp from the rain. Courtney felt her cheeks flush as she looked at him, trying to avoid his gaze. But then he looked at her, and she couldn't look away.
"Do you want to borrow a shirt?" he asked, and she realized that she had been staring. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..." she stammered, unable to finish her sentence.
Dwayne smiled, and she could see the amusement in his eyes. "It's okay," he said. "I'm flattered, really. But you should probably change out of those wet clothes before you catch a cold."
Courtney nodded, and she quickly got some dry clothes from Dwayne's wardrobe. She went into the bathroom to change, grateful for the privacy. When she emerged, she was in dry clothes and felt much more comfortable. Dwayne was sitting on the couch, reading a book.
"Feeling better?" he asked, glancing up from his book.As Courtney emerged from the bathroom, Dwayne was struck by her beauty. She was wearing one of his old shirts, which was much too big for her. It hung loosely on her frame, and the sleeves covered her hands. But the shirt also showed off her perfect legs, which were bare from the knees down. Dwayne had to admit that he was a bit taken aback by her appearance. She was radiant, even in such simple clothes.
"So, what do you think of the cabin?" he asked, trying to keep his focus on the conversation and not on her appearance.Courtney smiled. "It's perfect," she said. "I can't believe you have a place like this. It's like something out of a dream."
Dwayne laughed. "I'm glad you think so," he said. "I've always loved coming here. It's a place where I can truly relax and recharge. I'm glad you're able to enjoy it, too."
Courtney nodded. "I can see why you like it so much," she said. "It's the perfect escape."
There was a comfortable silence between them, and for a moment, they just sat there, enjoying the peace "Why don't you take the bed?" Dwayne suggested. "I'll sleep on the couch. I don't mind."
"What? No!" Courtney protested. "You can't sleep on the couch. You're the host, after all. I can't take the bed from you."
"We can share the couch," Dwayne said, trying to make it sound like a reasonable solution. "It's big enough for the both of us."
"I don't know..." Courtney hesitated, not sure if she wanted to share such a small space with Dwayne."Come on, it'll be fun," Dwayne said, trying to convince her. "We can stay up late and talk. It'll be like a slumber party."
Courtney couldn't help but laugh at the thought. "You're so silly," she said. "But I guess I could stay up for a little while longer. I'm sure we can find something to talk about."
And so, the two of them settled in on the couch, chatting about everything and anything. Dwayne told her stories about his childhood, and Courtney couldn't help but laugh at his antics. She told him about her own childhood, and he was surprised to learn that they had so much in common. They talked about their hopes and dreams, and their deepest fears. It was as if they had known each other for years, and they both felt a connection that was hard to explain.
The hours flew by, and before they knew it, it was well past midnight. They were both exhausted, but neither of them wanted to end the conversation. They were both reluctant to say goodnight, but they knew it was time to get some rest.
"This was really nice," Dwayne said, yawning. "We should do it again sometime.""Yeah, maybe we could make it a regular thing," Courtney said. "Once a week or something."
"I think I'd like that," Dwayne said, smiling. "It's been a while since I've had someone to talk to like this."
"I'm glad you feel that way," Courtney said. "I feel the same way."
There was a pause, and then they both burst out laughing. "We're really cheesy," Courtney said, shaking her head. "But I'm glad we can be like this with each other."
Dwayne nodded in agreement. "Me too."
**************
Dwayne slowly opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was Courtney's head resting on his chest. He smiled, wondering how she had ended up there. He had been so tired that he must have fallen asleep without realizing it. And she must have been tired as well, because she was sleeping soundly, her body curled up next to his. He tried to move without waking her, but it was impossible. He was stuck where he was, and he didn't want to disturb her.
He couldn't help but think about how wrong he had been about her. She was so much more than he had thought. She was kind and compassionate, and she had a way of making him feel at ease. He had never felt this way about anyone before, and he was surprised by how much he enjoyed her company. He didn't want the moment to end, but he knew he had to wake her up eventually.
Gently, he nudged her shoulder. "Courtney," he whispered. "Time to wake up."
She stirred, but didn't open her eyes. "No," she mumbled, snuggling closer to him. "Just five more minutes."
Dwayne laughed, but he couldn't deny that he enjoyed having her there, curled up next to him. "I'm afraid we can't stay here all day," he said. "We both have work to do."
"I know, I know," she said, reluctantly opening her eyes. "But it was so nice just being here with you."
"It was," he agreed. "Maybe we can do it again sometime."
"I'd like that," she said, sitting up and stretching. "But for now, we should probably get ready for the day."
Dwayne nodded, and they both stood up and started getting ready for work. Dwayne drove Courtney to her house, and she thanked him for the ride. As she got out of the car, he hesitated for a moment. "Courtney," he said. "I know you're supposed to come in on Friday, but I think you should take the day off. You've been working so hard lately, and you deserve a break."
Courtney was surprised by his offer. "Are you sure?" she asked. "I don't want to leave you short-handed."
"I'm sure," he said. "It's only one day, and I think you need the rest."
She hesitated for a moment, but then she smiled and nodded. "Okay," she said. "Thank you, Dwayne. I really appreciate it."
"You're welcome," he said. "I'll see you on Monday."
"Have a good weekend," she said, and then she went inside. Dwayne watched her go, feeling a strange sense of happiness. He knew he had made the right decision, and he was glad he could do something to help her. As he drove away, he couldn't help but smile.
