Derek’s POV

471 Words
I hated parties and I didn’t wanna come. But I needed my mate. I longed for my mate. Someone to share life with, to calm the storm that comes with being the leader of the strongest pack in the country. I’ve been searching for 4 years. I told myself this is the last time I’m coming to this annual find your mate party. As soon as I walked in the door Zeus went nuts in my head. He kept saying mate over and over. Then her smell hit me, orange with hint of vanilla. She smelled like a creamsicle. I followed it down the hallway to an office door. I could smell her scent coming from under the door. I inhaled as much as I could and held my breath. Hoping to just hold that scent inside for just a moment. It took all my strength to not bust the door down. I did a soft knock on the door. I heard some rustling then a soft voice said come in. I opened the door and seen the most gorgeous being I’ve ever seen. She was sitting behind a desk but I could tell she had curves. Her light brown hair had blonde highlights and was pulled back in a bun. She had hazel eyes that were glued to me. Just then a boy tried to make his way around me in the doorway. I put up my hand to stop him but I couldn’t take my eyes off my mate. I didn’t really see him just felt his presence and instinctively blocked him from getting to her. She spoke but I couldn’t tell you what she said other than I figured out he was her beta. I put my hand down and he took his place behind her. I moved to a chair in front of her and sat down. I said mate and she said it too. Chills ran through my body. I loved the sound of her voice. I was battling my wolf with every bit of strength I had. He wanted to jump over this desk and pin her against the wall. I couldn’t let him frighten her. I had to fight him for control. She told her beta he could stand outside then we introduced ourselves. She was an alpha. That was odd. Not many women are alphas. She must be strong. She was beautiful and strong. I felt like I won the lottery. I was still struggling for words. Afraid Zeus would use the conversation as a distraction and take over. We sat in silence for a few more minutes then she stood up and went to the balcony doors. Opening the to let the breeze in. I welcomed the fresh air. Her scent was making filling the room. Making it difficult to remain calm.
