Making an entrance

517 Words
While my makeup was being done I heard the murmurs of guest arriving. I was starting to feel a little anxious. I didn’t even know what I wanted. Did I want to find my mate? I was content with my life as it was. I was 20. I had completed alpha training. That wasn’t easy. It was literally an all male school. They made me miserable. But I finished in the top ten and then my dad handed over the pack to me. A lot of the male elders wasn’t happy but we made it work. And my pack was thriving. I opened the door and breathed a big gush of air. No smells gave the tingles I hear you feel when you are in the presence of your mate. So I descended the stairs confident I was gonna get through the night without my mate appearing. At the bottom of the stairs was my beta Greg with his mate Angela. They smiled up at me, slightly giggling as I navigated the stairs in my heels. I linked them telling them if I fell it would be their fault. The bust out laughing, but immediately stopped when my mother hushed them. I made it to the bottoms with no problem, then headed out the back door to the tent. I was opening with a speech. People was still showing up fashionably late I guess. But this parties start time was seven and we was going to get it started on time. The sooner it starts the sooner it ends. I walked up on stage and a hush fell over the crowd. Just then my wolf Zoey started freaking out in my head. Maybe she was feeling the anxiety to. I tried to calm her with no success so I blocked her for the moment. Good evening welcome to the annual mate ball. I would like to welcome you to my home, my name is alpha Vivian. You can call me Viv. I hope you all have a wonderful time. I heard snickers at the alpha part but I chose to not acknowledge it. I promptly descended the stage. I linked Greg and told him Zoey was flipping out I was heading to my office to calm her. As I passed the entrance I smelled the most amazing smell of cinnamon and I knew what Zoey was going on about. I didn’t even look up I put my head down and headed straight for my office hoping i could hide there for the night. And hoped the person the smell had come from hadn’t smelled me. I feared he’d be disappointed in what he seen or who I was. The last thing I needed was a rejection from my mate. I closed my office door, put my back against it and slid down to the floor. With my head in my hands. I sighed a sigh of relief, I made it safe and sound. A knock at the door made me nearly jump out of my skin. I knew who it was and I wasn’t prepared for him.
