CHAPTER THIRTEENKreon ran down the west wing of Kaiser Hospital, his sneakers screeching on the waxed linoleum. His head swayed from left to right, looking in each of the rooms that he passed. Finding the number of the room that he was looking for, he darted to it and entered calmly. As soon as he crossed the threshold, he found his uncle laid up in bed. A nurse had just handed him a cup of water and some pills. Tossing them back, he washed them down with the water. Afterwards, he crushed the cup with his hand and tossed it into the waste basket. With that out of the way, the nurse went on about her business. Omar’s eyes were red webbed and moist. The hair on his head was wild and unkempt.
