Chapter 2 - Waking up

906 Words
When I woke up, my eyes adjusted to the dark room I was in.  I tried to move but I was tied up, while I looked around the room, I saw other people around me including my family tied and gagged. It hurt me to see them in such a state. Apparently, the drug or whatever was still in their system. WAIT A MINUTE! JOHN! WHERE IS HE? WHY DID HE DRUG US? WHO ELSE DID HE KIDNAP? I had so many questions running through my mind when I heard a grunt. I looked around and saw that my parents had woken up. They looked frightened, finally when they saw me, they relaxed a little. As I looked for my little sister, I saw unfamiliar faces among us hostages. After a while I found my little sister next to my grandma. Thankfully, they didn’t look too bad. I started trying to free myself from the ropes tied around my hands. After some time, the ropes gave in and ladies and gentlemen I was free! I looked for an exit but the room or FREAKING stadium (It was THAT big) we were in was pretty dark. I could barely make my way to my parents without tripping and making any noise.   “Mom? Dad? Are you ok?” I whispered as I untied the ropes from their hands. They both nodded yes. When I removed the cloth from their mouth I whispered,  “I’ll get Richelle and grandma. Maybe the others too, if I find them that is.”    “Abril… please be careful and when we get out, we need to tell you something… but most importantly don’t forget we love you with our whole heart and will always be with you.”  I thought Mom was overreacting, so I just gave her and Dad a quick “I love you too” and a kiss on the cheek. I made my way to Richelle and Grandma, woke up and freed Richelle, I tried waking Grandma but no success. Richelle looked that she was going to pee her pants any second now, so I calmed her down and took her to Mom and Dad. They all did a group hug when they saw each other. “I couldn’t find the rest, I’m sorry” I said, feeling worried about where they could be. My mom was about to say something but was cut off by a familiar voice that said, “There is no need, they’re right here “. As we turned around, my blood ran cold… it was John and next to him were the rest of my family including Grandma on some weird kind of platform. This explains why I couIdn’t find them, John got to them first. He must’ve known I was looking for them and “helped” me out. I guess I wasn’t as stealthy and agile as I thought. “Nice try Princess, but not good enough.” John said calmly.     “, But HOW DARE YOU TAKE MY LOVE AWAY FROM ME!” he roared afterwards. His whole demeanor changed. “DON’T YELL AT MY DAUGHTER AND HER MOTHER IS MY WIFE NOT YOUR LOVE!!”, my Dad roared and even in his fifties, being a little weak and a little on the plus side, he looked a tad bit younger and fierce as ever. Come to think of it, I never really saw my Dad lose his temper, but I felt that it wouldn’t be enough to get us out. I felt that this time we wouldn’t win, and that John had the upper hand in this situation.  John said, “Listen, I have the winning hand here old man”, then he said, “bring me all except the sisters.” “NOOOO” My sister and me screamed. My parents and I weren’t going down without a fight which earned us all a punch or two. We eventually couldn’t keep fighting anymore and were separated. Mom was the one who was least hurt. It is clear john favors her. Can’t say the same about my sister, Dad, and me. My body felt heavy and I was in pain, Dad was on the verge of fainting if he didn’t already do so, and Rachel was crying from the pain. “It hurts Abril, I want to go home!”. Every time she looked at me or at dad she started crying again. I felt my face swelling so my best guess is bruises are forming on my face, so I need to get my hands on a mirror ASAP to see the damage. “It will be ok Rachel, I will get us home no matter what.” I said not really sure how I would do that. “Promise?”, she asked with a shaky voice. “Promise” I replied trying to sound as certain as possible and hoping I could fulfill this promise to her.    She finally fell asleep in my arms. Too bad I didn’t know that the worst was yet to come and that in trying to fulfill that promise I wouldn’t have anybody to go home with.
