Chapter 20

"You made a mistake, ass!" The first said as he made several motions, then the look of anger turned to shock then panic. "I hope that you can live with this. I did for most of my life, enjoy as you will never again terrorize the people here," I said as my Jinns and I turned our backs on them. "NO! You lie, no one gets power like that as quickly as you say. It takes a lifetime," the man was yelling as we faded. The strongest had reported to the Pharaoh, then disposed of the two without power. No sense in panicking the others. He then appeared where another four were being watched by several of his men. The one that was the strongest bowed before the leader to give his report. "What did you see?" the strongest asked. "Sir," the man said, trembling in fear. "It was the cursed one of the mage and Jinn power." The strongest nodded his head, then destroyed the four. With a sigh, he nodded to the others to return. He had to report to the Pharaoh, this was now serious now that they had lost seven. An hour later the leader of the Pharoah's mage guards walked into the Pharoah's chamber. The Pharoah looked up from reading a report. "Ah, if you are here then," the Pharoah stopped, seeing the look on the mage guard leader's face. "Why do I think that I am about to be angry and worried?" Letting out a sigh, the Pharoah nodded as the guard leader started. "Are there any orders sire?" The mage asked. The Pharoah was stunned for a few moments as he considered. "The simple fact that we lost seven, including the one that was almost as powerful as you are more than problematic. Suggestions, as it is obvious that this one is powerful enough to take more than two." "Sire," the mage guard started, "I believe that we can take it," he started when the Pharoah held up a hand. "He took out four of you, including the second strongest. I'm not in the mood nor have the time to replace you if you are wrong. Perhaps negotiation would work, it worked with the Syrian contingent," the Pharoah said. The mage guard had a shocked look on his face, "Sire?" "I already have to replace seven of you, this has almost halved the mage corp. No, try to see if he will talk, as soon as you find him again," the Pharoah said. The mage leader was seething inside as soon as the Pharoah said this, then took a deep breath. "I will personally attend to this sire." The mage leader was about to leave when the next words chilled him to his soul. "I don't want this man to be killed by you or your troops. I want him able to explain, or I'll recall the binding contract that I have with all the mage corps." The mage leader gulped quickly, then nodded as he vanished. Appearing near the border of the city, he blasted a few holes in the city wall. "Sir?" His new second in command said as he and the rest backed away. "That ignoramus fool! Doesn't he realize what this powerful abomination could do?" The mage leader asked. "Sir?" The second in command asked again. "The Pharoah wants to talk to this, this thing!" The mage leader whirled, staring at his troops. "Do you know what he is?" His second in command started, "We only felt that he was half Jinn and human. We," he was then interrupted. "You are a simple dolt not able to read him. He is an abomination, half Jinn and mage!" the leader shouted all his troops gasping at the news. "We have been ordered to find him and not kill him. I am afraid that he might be after the Pharoah. We will be on guard and kill him if he breathes wrong!" the mage leader ordered. All the mages that were his troops growled at that. "Why are we not killing him on sight?" one said. The mage leader looked at the speaker and snarled, "Because the Pharoah has a binding contract on us. Do you wish to find out what will happen if you break it?" The speaker was about to say more when he was blasted across the square, to the shouts of the others. The leader turned to the rest of them, "Not another word! The cost of betrayal is far higher than you realize. Do not waver from the plan or your duties." "The war is secondary?" Another one of the mages said in an aghast voice. The leader took a deep calming breath as he let the killing strike in his hand, go. In a terse voice, almost a whisper, the leader said, "For now, yes! Now find the man and any with him, do not try to take them, as they are too strong." Again there was a gasp from all there as they all vanished. The leader shook his head, this new generation of mages, seemed to have no respect for the old ways. The problem was, that this new threat was in fact the strongest even he had gone against. Far outside of the city, Catherine, Cythina and I appeared in an abandoned hut. I felt around seeing if we had been detected. Then for a moment I wondered how I could do this. I nodded my head at both my Jinns as they were staring at me with their mouths hanging open. Then they both fell to their knees. "Master! We did not know that you possessed Jinn power. You feel nothing like a Jinn, how?" Catherine asked, a look of praise on her and Cyhthina's faces. I tried as hard as I could to get both of them on their feet, but they refused. I sighed as I also sank to my knees, lifting both their heads. "I am not a deity, nor am I to be bowed down to," I said. They both shook as they could barely look at me. "Master, the amount of power you used was so strong, far stronger than I have ever felt," a still shaking Cathertine said. "It felt far beyond that of a mere Jinn." I could only stare at both of them, what they were saying went beyond what little I knew. I finally managed to get them off the floor as I sat to try and solve all this. It was a moment later that I felt a dull throb as the power within me seemed to drop. I made food and drink appear, noticing that it took a good deal of time to appear. I nodded my head as the thoughts I had before seemed to be appearing to be true. All three of us rested and ate as I also decided to plan. Within the huge room that she was in, Catherine could feel the power she had weakening. She had a bit left though she wasn't sure she had enough to reach her brother. A large smile crossed her features as she thought of him. The headaches were mercifully gone at least, though she could tell her brother still had some. She had heard the Pharoah talking about a worry he had with the mages. Something about they had lost seven? One being the second strongest? She smiled, that had to be her brother, uh...John! She shook her head as many of her memories were still like a piece of Swiss cheese, full of holes. John, she thought she had to repeat that as much as she could. A sigh escaped her lips as she moved toward the doorway. She was immediately met by a huge brutish male. Though he didn't try to stop her, he stayed extremely close to her as she walked from the room. The only time he tried to stop her was when she tried to leave the building. It was a decision he thought he was well ready for, he wasn't. The fact that she took him out with a type of fighting he didn't know didn't aid him much later. Catherine let out a sigh of relief as she made her way away from the building she'd been in. She made her way across the city with a feeling that she was drawing closer to her brother. She hated using what little power she had left, but she had to find him. Almost to the end of the city, she heard a loud piercing whine of an alarm. Moving as fast as she could, she felt John drawing even closer. I had stood, a strange feeling coming over me as if something was approaching me. A few minutes later a female voice came from outside the hut, "John?" I almost ripped the door off the doorway as I stared at my sister Catherine. I grabbed her in a huge hug, afraid to let go of her, neither of noticing the blue glow that enveloped us. The weakening within me was starting to grow far less, far faster than before. I gave Catherine a kiss, hugging her tighter. I pulled her within the hut as tears of joy fell from her eyes. "I was so afraid I wouldn't see you again," she said. For another minute, I held her, then, of course, the bad guys popped up. "Abomination, make it easy, step out, and we'll end you quickly." I growled as Catherine held my hand tighter. My other hand built up a charge and shot through the wall. I knew from the screams that I got more than two of them. A moment later, I felt another five flash in. I managed to peak out seeing three on the ground not moving. "Hey, you evil piece of s**t, how 'bout I finish all of you off? You all seem to be rather weak, it shouldn't take too long," I shouted. There was a long moment of cursing, then they let loose on the hut. The cursing seemed to grow louder as nothing was happening to the hut. A moment after that, another really bad situation appeared. "So human, you are trading trouble again," came the voice of Elvantor Hajib. As I expected, the mages that were left started to yell as energy blasts started to hit away from us. I saw movement as Hajib started to advance on us. "Such a weak human fighting almost as weak mages," Hajib stated, then screamed as he was hit by a powerful blast. "I will kill you slowly, you mage filth." "Heard that before you Jinn trash, even if your power is closer to my heart," the leader said. There was a moment of silence as the two stared at each other. It was then that nine other mage blasts hit where Hajib was. I used that moment to try and escape running into a solid wall. I then heard evil laughing outside the hut. "You really think I'd allow you to escape?" came Hajib's voice. OK, that was it! I felt rage as I released a blast far larger than I had before. The screams I heard caused a smile to light up my features, especially when one was Hajib's. I dared a look seeing Hajib rolling on the ground. Plus, there were only five of the mages left, I tried again but only managed to move us a few hundred yards. We appeared in another hut, still too close for my taste. I heard all there yell when we vanished, then they started to point to where we were. I hadn't noticed that I hadn't released my sister's hand as I concentrated and we vanished again. The same tunnel that had been there appeared as all four of us fell backwards. This time we appeared in a city unlike any I had ever seen before. Within minutes many were pointing fingers at us. That's when the magical blasts and troops started to appear. I had a shield up within moments, the blasts bouncing back, dissolving a great many that were firing at us. That's when the screaming and massive exodus started. The troops that were left were firing at us from cover. Their attacks were also bouncing back at them, reducing their numbers more. A loud, authoritative voice sounded stopping everything. I looked up, seeing what appeared to be a regal mage, a king? "What is going on here?" The regal male said. One of the troops started to talk far faster than almost anyone could understand. The Regal male held up a hand, quieting the troop member. "Let another try, since you are distracted," the Regal male said. A few moments later the still floating male held up another hand. He then turned toward me with an expectant look on his face. I shook my head no, staring daggers at the one that had spoken. "I am Tompkin, let me clear this up. There is a lot of mistrust of Jinn kind." He turned and with a wave of his hand, Tompkin scanned the male before him. A look of anger started to show on his face the longer it went on. "So, you attacked with no warning, just on sight unseen? I am far more disappointed in you than I should be," Tompkin said. My mouth must have been hanging open as my Jinn Catherine closed it. "I apologize for scaring the people here," I said. This, of course, brought a lot of gasps from all that were left there. "Hmmm," Tompkin said, "You really aren't from here, are you?" I shook my head, "At the moment, I don't really even know where or when we are." "Mmmm, yes, that does explain quite a bit indeed. Please come," Tompkin stopped when nothing happened when he passed a hand over us. "Well, follow then," then he vanished. Again, my Jinns had to close my mouth as we all vanished and appeared in a lavish room. OK, this was starting to be embarrassing as they closed my mouth again. "Welcome to my home, this is the palace of Xansibar. So, care to explain why you are here?" Tompkin asked. I went through almost the whole tale, ending at least an hour later. "I have been trying to save my sister that I had just found again, after all this time. Plus, my Jinn by the same name, has been hunted by a truly evil Jinn." Tompkin shook his head then looked at me closer than before. "Would you mind if I scryed or scanned you, as you call it?" he asked. I shrugged as he waved a hand over me. My sister still hadn't released my hand in quite some time. She and apparently I, were feeling the best that we had in a very long time. At first, it appeared that Tompkin wasn't picking up anything, then his eyes went wide. By all that is holy! No wonder you are so powerful, the both of you. From what I can feel, you are both stronger than everyone in this palace! I can feel the power of both mage and Jinn within you both!" I looked at my sister as a few more memories started to flood my mind. That's when I started to spasm and scream no. I could see all of it now, the almost end of this war. A war that had been going on for thousands of years. A war that started with the supposed killing of the mage king by Jinns. I fell over even as I took a tiny bit of skin from the mage king. I had to stop this, but how? As far as I knew, once it was set it couldn't be changed, right? I tried to sit up as a new determination filled my being. Little did I know that outside the Palace another dark being had appeared, one with an evil plan. A plan that was truly the real reason the war started. We stayed there for a few hours, getting to know the king as he did us. Finally, we said our goodbyes as we left back to our time. Little did we know that the ex-leader of the Pharoah's mages had been watching. A dark portal opened a moment later as Hajib appeared with a wicked look on his face. "Hmmm," Hajib said, "far more lavish than I expected. Is that him?" "Yes," the ex-leader said. "Just kill him and I can rule as the mages should." Hajib looked at the ex-leader for a moment, as he made several motions. He then started to glow as he took aim at the mage ruler. His first bolt caught the leader a brushing blow, knocking him off his feet. Hajib thought he had won as the ex-leader also fired a bolt at the ruler. This second blast bounced off, surprising the ex-leader, brushing off his arm. Hajib was about to fire again when the mage ruler caught him in his newly regrown arm, obliterating it. They both yelled in pain and fired at the same time, catching the ruler, killing him. Hajib escaped through the ex-leader's portal, the mage yelling afterward that the king was killed by a Jinn. The only thing that stopped the main guard from investigating more, was the ex-leader was his friend. All he saw was that the energy that had killed the king was Jinn. The evil mage quickly formulated a plan to go after the abomination. The male and the one female with him were far stronger than any that were there. It was going to take the combined power of a great many mages to destroy him. The female with him would make a far better trophy than much else. As for the Jinns, he didn't really care, one of them, Hajib, said he had a claim to. As long as he got what he was after, he wasn't that concerned. All four of us were heading back to the present when we seemed to hit a wall. They weren't that far past King Arthur's time when they dropped out. We hit the ground far gentler than we had before. We looked around as a great many people ran past us. Not far behind appeared to be several mages that were blasting at them with energy bolts. The five that were chasing them stopped when they saw us. I held up a hand that caused all of them to laugh 'til three of them vanished into dust. The look on their faces when the three were destroyed was priceless. Then they made their last mistake as they got mad and started to blast away at us. OK, I thought what gives? These were so weak that they hardly had any power. I made a slashing motion as one was cut in half. I grabbed and immobilized the last. It only took a moment to take what I needed from him, then I tossed him as he exploded. I could feel whatever was keeping us here growing slightly weaker, though not enough. I shook my head, I had obviously left things unfinished back where I had started. I heard shouting as what appeared to be another twenty that showed up. I shook my head as I pointed at all of them, and they were destroyed. OK, I thought we are obviously going to have to go back. I waved a hand as we vanished. A moment later an older male appeared looking at the destruction with a quivering lip, then he vanished. A huge castle many miles away was the destination of the male. "Sire," the male yelled as soon as he appeared. "The one whose power you warned me of, he was here. He destroyed thirty clones!" The older ex-leader passed a hand over the male, then grimaced. This was bad, the abomination was almost twice as strong. Plus, he was no longer here. The ex-leader concentrated as hard as he could, he had to give warning. Then he thought how? He didn't know when the abomination would reappear or did he? We all traveled back far easier than we ever had. Appearing outside the castle we had left before, I really had a bad feeling about this. Sure enough, we had barely got our bearings when we were set upon by a great number of mages. What they were spouting though, was confusing as could be. I pointed at the first twenty as they poofed, into dust. This had the effect of having all that were attacking pause. I could see that they were far angrier than I thought they'd be. Wait, the king was dead? They were saying that I had killed him? I swept my arm across all that were still there, effectively knocking them out. I then appeared back in the same room we had departed from. Luckily, I had my shield up as a lot of power hit it. "So you are here to finish off the rightful king. I warn you I will not die as easily as the last king did," the ex-leader said, sending out a huge fireball. I saw what appeared to be a swirling of colors from him as I reached into him as he sent another fireball. I actually saw where it came from: a depression that had tightly swirling colors coming from. I covered a part of the depression I was seeing the swirling colors coming from. I felt rather than heard him scream as his fireball just stopped. I smirked as I saw that the colors were now still. "What have you done to me? You horrid abomination. I will not rest 'til you and all that are with you are dead! You will pay for what you have done!" He then vanished as the castle started to shake. I got all four of us out of there. I felt around, though I did not feel the other mages. I then felt forward in time surprised I could. We then vanished heading back to our time, unaware things weren't quite right.
