Chapter Three: The Alpha’s Arrival.

Luna’s POV. I felt a shiver run through my spine. The wound he inflicted on me was still bare. How could I even react when I saw him? My mate who threw my love back in my face and rejected me like I was nothing? "Darius?" I murmured, my voice barely more than a whisper. "Why is he coming here?" “You seem to forget that you're now a renowned doctor. Of course, he has to pay you that respect as the daughter of the soil who has made the pack proud.” My mother said, touching my hand warmly. I didn't know how dazed I was till I felt a hand on my shoulder making my jump, "Luna," Michael called out, "Are you holding up okay? I know this must be difficult for you." I nodded slowly, appreciating his perception but it wasn't doing anything to calm me down. "I'm trying, Michael. But the thought of seeing Darius again... it brings back memories I'd rather forget." "Whatever happens, Luna, know that I'm here for you. You're not alone in this." He said, whispering in bits. “What is going on Luna? Is there something going on with you and the alpha?” Monroe asked, her eyes going from Michael to me and me to Michael. “He is… was my mate. B-but he rejected me on the same day. That's why I left. I'm so sorry I didn't tell you,” I said, shaking. “What? Oooh that's some twist,” Marcus said, “Then who knows, maybe he realized his mistake and wants you to take him back.” “Did you hear what I just said?” I asked Marcus, my eyes furrowed. "Luna Evergreen," Beta Kai greeted me from behind me, startling me, his voice was deep and cold, filled with authority. "Your return has been long-awaited." ‘Did he hear our conversation?’ I wondered, but looking at his face, it didn't seem like he heard anything at all. I nodded, my gaze unable to meet his eyes so mine swept over the faces of people I remembered and those I didn't. "Thank you. It feels good to be back," I said, my voice stronger than I felt. It was then I noticed that there were more wolves gathered in my house now than previously. Someone must have alerted them that I had come back. And if the Beta was here, the Alpha wasn't far off. "And who is this?" a voice called out from the crowd. It was Elara, her eyes fixed on Michael, emitting curiosity and cautiousness. ‘Was she here all the while?’ I wondered, my gaze meeting hers. "This is Michael Harris, my colleague from the human world. He's here to learn and to help," I introduced him, placing a hand on his shoulder. Michael smiled and stepped forward. "It's great to be here with all of you. I've heard a lot about the Silverwood Pack," he said, sounding genuinely impressed seeing so many wolves. The pack members looked at each other, surprised and curious. It wasn't every day they met a human who wasn't trying to kill them - I mean that was our own version of having a fake myth. The party continued, with everyone having a good time. But then I felt a sudden chill. I sensed someone staring at me before I saw them, boring holes into my head and heat into my back. Turning slowly, my eyes found the source of the searing scrutiny. Darius Frost stood at the far end across from me, his gaze locked on mine with an fiery intensity. But it wasn't me he was truly seeing—it was Micheal who was blissfully unaware of how his presence next to me was probably making the Alpha contemplate murder. “He's staring at Michael angrily. I don't think he likes the fact that Michael is holding your hand so romantically.” Michael said, establishing a mind link with me, our eyes going unfocused. “Or maybe he's angry I brought a human to the pack without getting clearance from him. That must be it,” I replied, definitely not buying into Marcus' idea that he might be jealous. “Don't be so sour, the Alpha coming to welcome you specially isn't something you see everyday,” Marcus said, and with that he severed the mind link, just in time to see the Alpha making his move. My heart stopped immediately, anxiety creeping in as I watched him come over, time slowing down, I didn't realize my hands were shaking till Monroe tangled both our hands together calming me down immediately.
