The end of peace

1213 Words
I am sitting in my favorite hiding spot, next to the lake, and the moon shines over it. This place is so beautiful in the forest. Tonight everything is so bright. I could see every grass stalk in its little detail. A tiny spider made its web between grass stalks and a spider was in the middle sleeping and waiting for its victim. I was hugging my legs, and my head was on my knees. My naked body didn't feel the cold September breeze, I just changed into my human form, and my long brown hair was the only thing that covered my back and my bare chest. I turned my head to the right to feel the breeze and saw my arm with the pack's tattoo on it – a maze inside a moon. The maze symbolized our life's journey. If we get lost, and when we make all the wrong turns, there is always one way out. We need to trust ourselves and the Goddess of the moon to show us the right direction. I smiled because this tattoo was my life's story. I wasn't born in this pack. I earned my way through it, and the tattoo was proof of that. I was a long way from my home. I was still in our territory. This pack was one of the largest packs in Northern America, the Aters moon pack. Tonight, my pack's leader- Alpha Met, the biggest, badass wolf warrior I have seen, will decide not only the pack's destiny but mine as well. His decision will make me face my past demons. I looked up and saw the moon. It shined brightly tonight, even though it wasn't a full moon yet. It was like the Moon Goddess herself wanted us to know - this is an important night. I couldn't shake off the feeling that this night would change my life forever, and there was nothing I could do about it. I felt the breeze, and I took it in. I smell the grass, the water in the lake and leaves on trees. I took everything in, as far as I know, that was my last peaceful night. And then my body just froze, someone was heading my way, my wolf, Leia, was waiting too. I heard a little brunch crack on my right. It was coming closer. I inhaled the air again, exhaled the familiar scent, relaxed, and smiled. I know the intruder. He quietly came to my side. I looked up to him, there he was, my Gamma, third in power in our pack. Ben stood shirtless, just in his black sneakers and grey shorts. On his arm I saw a shirt that he was offering to me, and I gladly took it. When I put it on to show his respect, he just turned his head the other way. I saw the text on the shirt that said- relax - and I smiled. Ben always had humor. He needs it, he is only the third in power, but Ben is in charge of training all the new wolf warriors. That is a great responsibility. He sat down next to me and said- I couldn't reach you. - I switched the pack off. ….I wanted to be alone. - I answered. - Damit, Maia! - he raised his voice - We are at war, rouges could be everywhere, and what if Mat himself wanted to reach you? He would bite your head off for this!!! – I know Ben was angry because he rarely raised his voice. Usually, it took just one look and everyone would shut up. I know I made him very angry, but I was in no mood for that. – I am sorry for my disobedience, Gamma, that was irresponsible of me and will never happen again. - When he heard me calling him by his rank, he cooled down. Ben was my ally, my savior, my trainer and a friend. I had the honor to call him by his name, not rank. When he calmed down, he continued. - I was looking for you to say that half an hour ago Mat decided, and now we are allies with the Red Moon pack. Alfa himself, with some of us, are heading here in three days to seal the deal. Sam (packs Beta) will be staying here, but we both and some others are going with Alpha. I think he wants to show his best trainer and the pack's best tracer because both Alphas want to train warriors together. They want their best worriers to make the training plan. - After a bit of silence, he continued. - I am so sorry that you have to go back. - I didn't say anything, I just looked at the grass near the lake, how the spider had made its trap there. I saw how a tiny insect just got trapped in the web and couldn't get out. It tried hard, but that only woke up the spider, and it started to move in the insect's direction. At that moment, I felt like I was that tiny insect inside the web. -Maia, do you hear me? - I looked at Ben. His face had a strict jawline, and his long nose was a little bit crooked because of all the training and battles. His black hair was short and made him look a little bit too serious. He had some scars from fighting on his face and chest from yesterday's battle with rouges, and I looked at a little mark on his right cheek. The scar almost healed it. I saw how a rogue werewolf gave him that mark, and the next thing I knew, that wolf's throat was out on the ground next to its lifeless body. Ben was ruthless and a worrier, but he had kind green eyes, but only over my dead body would I ever admit that to him. Many shewolves fall for those types of eyes. And all these years I have heard a lot of his admirers' hearts were broken. He didn't have a mate, which made him a big target for unmated shewolves, but he was something different for me. Without him, I would not have made it this far. -Maia, what the hell? - he looked worried and a little bit pissed off. I wasn't ready to talk about my previous pack. I just turned my eyes to the lake and said- Do you know it has been four years since you found me here? - He sensed that I didn't want to talk about our future allies and my connection with them. And even he, the closest I have to a family, didn't know the whole story. He just took a deep breath and gave up. He pulled me closer and put his hand around my shoulders, and I put my head on his. We started to look at the lake, and he said - Of course, I remember, that was the night you and your naked body's image ruined my favorite hiding spot! - I looked into his green eyes and punched his guts. He laughed, and I smiled back, but only he knew that there was a hint of sadness in that story.
