I'd have gotten home early if I waited till Sara was done with her escalade before I left. Waiting, I watched her silently.
Would she tell me it wasn't just a coincidence?
That Mike had never seen her before, and they had just been together for the first time. I could hear the rhythm of my heart beating loudly in my chest, and I couldn't ignore it.
When I'd showered, I walked calmly to her room and knocked on it.
She opened it just then.
“Hey…” I said, unsure where to start.
She peered at me silently. A smile on her face, like she was happy to see me, I hope she was.
“How was the gala?” I asked, and her eyes shone with excitement.
“I've never seen so many people before.” She said, and I smiled.
Her excitement seemed genuine, but I couldn't quite place it.
