The Shadow Army marched beneath a sky of endless darkness.
Their black banners stretched across the valley like a sea of death.
Thousands of armored wolves moved as one.
No voices.
No fear.
Only absolute obedience.
At their head rode a single warrior clad in black armor.
His face remained hidden beneath an iron mask.
He stopped his horse and looked toward the Moon Temple.
"The Queen has awakened."
He spoke calmly.
"Inform the Shadow King."
---
Inside the Moon Temple...
The warning bells continued to ring.
Every Guardian rushed to the walls.
The atmosphere had changed completely.
The sanctuary that had remained peaceful for centuries was now preparing for war.
---
Lyra stood beside Fenrir.
She watched the endless army gathering below.
Her hands trembled.
"So many..."
Fenrir nodded.
"The Shadow King never sends a small force."
"He tests his enemies first."
---
Cassian stepped beside her.
His expression was calm despite the overwhelming odds.
"My Queen."
"You don't have to fight today."
"We'll protect you."
Lyra looked at the exhausted warriors surrounding the temple.
Some were sharpening broken swords.
Others were treating wounded soldiers.
Every one of them was preparing to risk their lives...
For someone they had only just met.
---
"No."
She said quietly.
"They're risking everything because of me."
"I won't hide behind them."
---
Fenrir smiled.
Not proudly.
Respectfully.
"A Queen's first lesson."
"Leadership."
---
At that moment...
A frightened young soldier rushed into the courtyard.
He couldn't have been older than eighteen.
"My Queen!"
He fell to one knee.
"The eastern gate..."
"They've surrounded it."
"We're outnumbered."
His voice shook.
"We're afraid."
---
Lyra looked into his eyes.
She saw herself.
The lonely girl who had once believed she had no place in the world.
She slowly walked toward him.
Then she placed a gentle hand on his shoulder.
"You don't have to pretend to be fearless."
The young soldier looked up in surprise.
"Being afraid..."
"...doesn't make you weak."
"It means you understand what's at stake."
She looked beyond him at every warrior gathered in the courtyard.
"I won't ask any of you to die for me."
A heavy silence filled the temple.
"But..."
"If we stand together..."
"If we protect each other..."
"Then today..."
"...we fight for every family waiting for us to return home."
No one spoke.
Then...
The young soldier slowly stood.
His fear hadn't disappeared.
But something stronger had replaced it.
Hope.
---
One by one...
The warriors straightened their backs.
Swords were raised.
Shields locked together.
Cassian smiled faintly.
"They already believe in you."
Fenrir nodded.
"The Moon Temple has chosen wisely."
---
Suddenly...
BOOOOOOM!
The massive eastern gate shook violently.
A second impact followed.
Cracks spread through the ancient stone.
The Shadow Army had begun its assault.
A deep voice echoed from outside the walls.
"Moon Queen!"
The entire mountain trembled.
"I have come..."
"...to welcome you."
Silence swept across the defenders.
Even Fenrir's expression darkened.
"The Shadow King's First General."
Had arrived.
The eastern gate shook again.
BOOOOM!
Ancient stone cracked beneath another devastating blow.
Dust rained from the towering walls.
The young soldiers instinctively stepped backward.
Fear spread through their ranks.
---
Then...
Everything became silent.
No more attacks.
No more marching.
Even the wind stopped.
---
A lone figure slowly emerged from the darkness.
He walked toward the Moon Temple without haste.
Each step echoed across the valley.
Black armor covered his body from head to toe.
A crimson cape flowed behind him.
Unlike the Shadow Wolves surrounding him...
He carried no weapon.
He didn't need one.
---
Fenrir's silver eyes narrowed.
"So..."
"You survived."
The stranger stopped.
A slow smile appeared beneath his helmet.
"It's been a long time, First Guardian."
---
Lyra studied him carefully.
He wasn't enormous.
He wasn't terrifying to look at.
Yet every instinct screamed that he was the most dangerous person she had ever seen.
---
Cassian unconsciously stepped in front of Lyra.
"My Queen."
"If the battle begins..."
"...don't leave Fenrir's side."
---
The stranger removed his helmet.
A handsome man with ash-gray hair looked up at the temple.
His face appeared calm.
Almost gentle.
Only his crimson eyes betrayed the monster beneath.
---
"I suppose introductions are necessary."
He bowed politely.
"I am Malrik."
"First General of the Shadow King."
---
A murmur spread across the defenders.
The First General.
The commander responsible for conquering kingdoms.
The man known as The Fortress Breaker.
---
Malrik smiled warmly.
"I didn't come to kill anyone today."
His eyes met Lyra's.
"I came to invite our Queen home."
---
Lyra frowned.
"I already am home."
For the first time...
Malrik laughed.
A genuine laugh.
"That's what your mother said."
The smile disappeared from Lyra's face.
"You knew my mother?"
---
Fenrir stepped forward immediately.
"Don't answer him."
"He's trying to break your concentration."
---
Malrik ignored Fenrir completely.
He continued looking only at Lyra.
"The night she died..."
"I was there."
The entire courtyard froze.
Lyra's breathing stopped.
"What..."
"...did you say?"
---
Malrik's voice became almost sympathetic.
"Your mother begged."
"Not for her own life."
"For yours."
He slowly reached inside his cloak.
Every Guardian prepared to attack.
Instead...
He pulled out a small silver pendant.
Half of a broken crescent moon.
Lyra instinctively touched the necklace around her own neck.
It carried...
The other half.
---
Her eyes widened.
"How do you have that?"
Malrik gently closed his hand around the pendant.
"Because your mother..."
"...gave it to me."
Silence consumed the battlefield.
Even Fenrir looked shocked.
Cassian's expression hardened.
Something about Malrik's words...
Didn't fit the history they had always believed.
Then Malrik smiled one last time.
"The stories you've been told are incomplete."
"When you're ready to learn how your mother truly died..."
"...come to the Shadow King's castle."
He turned and walked away.
No attack.
No battle.
Only questions.
As the Shadow Army retreated into the darkness...
Fenrir whispered words that made Cassian's blood run cold.
"He shouldn't have that pendant."
"Because I watched Queen Selene die with it in her hands."
