I grunted; I knew what they were. I didn’t need a lecture from him on the descriptions of Royal Companions, consorts or even exotics. I wanted to be one, a right hand to a high-ranking official—I wanted to be his hands, his eyes—but not just to any official; I wanted to be consort to Admiral Patrick. “Yes, I know what that is,” I said.
