Elara's POV
The office door was open, sun rays shining across polished floors.
Aiden stood behind his desk, looking towards the window. “You’re late, you shouldn't have even bothered coming,” he said harshly.
I was startled. “I’m not actually employed here sir,” I said sharply.
He looked at me, the way most men who thought kindness was weakness did.
“You must be the replacement for Abigail,” he said. “You look… softer than I expected.” He said calmly.
"So this is the ‘Aiden Vale’, the guy who spoke rudely to me,” I thought to myself.
“Although you look quite familiar he went on, I just can't place where I have seen you before.
“I was the one you embarrassed the other day, but sir, I understand that you're the boss of this company, but you can't speak to people that way."
Then, I left hurriedly.
Outside the office, my chest tightened—not because I was afraid of him, but rather because I realized that I may have said what I shouldn't have and there was no turning back from it.
Aiden's POV
I watched Elara as she left the office. I was so infuriated by all that she said. But despite how annoyed I was, our conversation felt refreshing.
She didn't please me nor try to flatter me as other people did. She only spoke her mind. And for the first time in a long while, someone had walked out on me and I didn't do anything about it.
I called in Abigail, and we made preparations to move to my villa, Schunt villa, which is close to the Maneel villa, where I would be watching Katrina's movement.
I wanted to watch Katrina closely to know the right time we could talk properly.
Elara's POV
The villa was nothing I had imagined. It was enormous. It was much bigger than the little cramped house that I shared with my brothers.
I saw crystal chandeliers hung up in the ceilings, which looked like stars in the night sky, the floor was made with marbles, but in its sterile elegance, I felt like an intruder as this place gave off a sense of perfection and control without any sign of warmth.
Aiden spoke flatly. “You girls can choose your room for the night. I am staying in the master's suite. Don't come to disturb me unless you are being called. Everything you need is already provided.”
While he was talking, I wasn't listening because the villa looked unreal. When he left, I picked up my bags and wandered around looking for a room to stay in.
That was when I noticed a beautiful golden door on my left. I got so curious that I waltzed in freely without knocking or thinking.
The room had a vast space, and sunlight spilled across silk sheets and polished wood, wrapping the space in a quiet luxury.
I was admiring the room when I heard a voice behind me.
It was a loud and hoarse voice, “Are you lost, baby girl?”
I turned slowly to see who it was
It was Aiden.
He wrapped his towel around his waist as he came out of the shower. His bare skin glowed like carved bronze as droplets of water trickled down from his muscles to his abdomen. His dark hair clung to his forehead as droplets of water traced the sculpted muscles of his torso.
“Careful doll,” he said smoothly. “ There is no need to sneak around for me to notice your presence, if you really want me, I can come to you.”
I straightened up, kept my chin high, refusing to let him see how his words had rattled me. “I’m not here for that nonsense, I just got lost. I spoke sharply.
“Do you really believe that I entered this room to share a bed with you? I’d rather sleep with a madman than share a bed with someone like you. I said, allowing my cold, steady gaze to meet his.
I walked out of the room, hoping he hadn't noticed the red flush on my cheeks.
Aiden's POV
I should have chased her out the moment I noticed her, but I was captivated by the red gown she wore, which revealed her curves, making it hard to look away.
I wouldn't date a girl like her. She is not even my type. She is beautiful, yes, but she doesn't look like the girls I have dated before. However, whenever she was close to me, her presence always made me feel weak in the knees.
After she left the room suddenly. I fell on my bed, running my hands through my hair, with so much anger burning in my chest. I was so annoyed at myself for what I said.
My alarm had rung for my meeting, and I shrugged off the thought, dressed up, and continued my work.
Elara's POV
I walked to Abigail's room fuming with so much rage. “Aiden thought I wanted to sleep with him? He’s so full of himself. I wonder how you keep up with him. I guess he also talks to other women at work like that right?” I spoke firmly to Abigail.
Abigail replied gently. “ Well, he’s never said anything like that to anyone before. I think he was just teasing you. Don’t let him get under your skin.”
When she said this I didn't say anything, but I resolved then and there that I would avoid him at all costs.
I noticed that there were no chefs or cleaners.
So I cooked.
Aiden emerged from his room and walked to the sitting area, with his laptop slung over his arm.
Abigail came out of her room with her clutches by her side hopping towards me. She leaned on the table. And asked why I was cooking.
I replied ghastly. “There are no chefs around. So I decided to cook pasta.”
“Well, I normally just order takeout when we come here,” Abigail whispered softly.
After I was done, I served it on the dining table for the three of us to eat. When Aiden came to the table, he told us to leave and eat somewhere else.
We looked at him and said nothing. That night he ate all by himself while we ate beside the pool.
The following morning, I cleaned the house, cooked food, and even mowed the lawn. Then I asked Aiden if I needed to do anything else.
But he ignored me.
After he was done, he and Abigail went through the schedule for the day.
Then he said I should join him for golf.
At the golf course, Aiden climbed into the golf cart and drove ahead, leaving me to trail behind on foot. I said nothing and went on.
He met with whoever he came to see him, they spoke in low voices and smiled continuously.
I waited by the porch for him to be done with the discussion.
Then I went to get some water. When I returned to check for him, he was gone.
I didn't panic. I went to the golf course to search for him. I had initially thought that maybe he had moved to the bar to continue with his discussion.
So I went there to search for him as well.
It got dark and everyone started to leave.
I asked around for Aiden Vale only to find out that he had left hours earlier, sometime in the afternoon.
