I closed the curtain as soon as Emma saw me. I couldn’t talk to her anymore, I couldn’t go out with her, I couldn’t be with her
The closest I could do was watch her from afar, but it wasn’t enough. It would never be enough to just stand in my room and peer from my window.
A cold breeze passed, making me shiver. I was about to cross my arms, an attempt to make myself warm, but I felt someone else’s arms around me.
“What was that?” I asked, moving the curtain a little to point at the police outside.
Her laugh made me shudder; it never failed to pierce my ear and bring chills to my spine, the bad way. “I did that for you, aren’t you happy?”
“What… what do you mean?” I looked at her, she looked pleased with herself. I was afraid of her answer; what did she do this time?
She hummed, letting go of me and comfortably sitting on my bed. “I killed him,” she stated, simply. It didn’t look like it bothered her, but it almost made me choke on my own spit.
“What did you say? Why did you do that? What?!” I exclaimed. This was horrendous. Why would she kill someone? How can you even do that?
Suddenly, she was in front of me. Her finger went to my lips as she giggled. “Why do you think? He hurt you, Luke. Not just once.”
I gulped. “H-how did yo-“
“I know everything, Luke. I know who hurts you. I know what you do. But moreover,” She pinched my cheek before continuing, “I know Emma. You think I don’t know you love her?”
Swiftly, her mood changed from proud to furious.
“Well, f*****g think again.”
I found myself pushed up against the wall, with her hand on my neck. Her once green irises turned black, as she glared at me.
“I told you to stay away from her. Why didn’t you?”
“I-I can’t,” I sputtered. Air was fast disappearing because of her tight grasp; I felt like there was also a bruise. But then, it was becoming a common thing to me. I would get one every day, of course I’d get used to it.
“I’ll get her one day. I swear I will, if you don’t stop.” Her look was of pure anger and seriousness as she released me from her grip.
“Don’t, Tabitha.”
She was beginning to disappear, but I still managed to hear her voice. “All you have to do is leave her, and she’ll be fine, Luke. She'll be just fine."
