Elena’s eyes were soft, filled with a quiet warmth. Maybe it was because she’d called him “Senior D” before she fainted, reminding him of their old promise. Or maybe it was guilt over her near miscarriage. Whatever the reason, she felt oddly happy. At least Damien was looking at her again — really seeing her.
Damien wanted to stay by her side a little longer, but a few calls from the office pulled him away. As he reached the stairwell, a familiar voice drifted down the hallway.
