Devon's POV.
"All I'm saying is, coming to a truce with the witches clan is only going to save us more blood shed----"
"If we keep encouraging their threats by always preaching peace, this is not going to stop, I say we get ready for war---"
"Aren't you tired of our children dying?---"
"Are you saying they are stronger than us?--"
"All I'm saying is, the witches are only lashing out because they feel threatened, when we propose peace, explaining to them we do not mean any harm they'll---"
"We are stronger than they are, more in number and have better resources, we can take them anytime any day. There no point calling any truce---"
My ears have been bleeding since this meetings started. The death of Vampire's are increasing daily and some of the council believe it to be witches.
They have all been arguing between themselves, safe for myself, Edgar, Timothy and Beatrice. Even my dunce of a cousin is insisting we go to war. I know the killings are not caused by the witches, we have maintained peace between the two entities but Sylvester and his people had always gone against that truce. Left to them, they'll want to wipe out every witch in the world. However there was not going to be any war between us because the witches have kept their own end of the bargain.
After several voices and argument had been raised, there returned silence, all eyes turned to me just now appreciating my presence in the room.
"My Lord. You have been silent since this meeting started. What is your take on the issue of the witches being responsible for the deaths of our members?" Lady Palmer asked me, her bracelet covered wrist making screeching sound in the quiet halls.
I eyed the rest of the council, my eyes focusing on every one of them and they averting their gaze when my eyes landed on them. These men were the worst people on these earth. They were the vilest and most evil and it made my skin crawl to be in their presence sometimes. I wasn't no saint, I had done my own fair share of evil and maybe I was still doing but I was a saint compared to these men.
"Has any one of you seen the bodies of these men?" I asked. They returned their gazes to each other, Sylvester my cousin was staring daggers at me but I paid him no mind.
"No one right?" I got no response.
"Why do you then believe the witches had something to do with the killings? Or are we just going to start wiping them off simply because of the rumors we hear?" I asked to no one in particular. They all bowed their heads, some averting their gazes from me so I'd not call them out.
"If not the witches then who?" My cousin's lap dog voices out. I peered my gaze at Lord Timon, his body squirming under my scrutiny but he cleared his throat and continued.
"We have every reason to believe that they are responsible for this killings---"
"Why if I may ask do you believe Lord Timon that they are responsible?" His eyes widened. He opened his mouth to speak but I beat him to it. "Perhaps your reason would be because Lady Lula didn't accept your offer in laying with her last forth night?"
His eyes widened, and there was series of gasp and snorts going on in the room. Lady Lula was the daughter of the queen of the witches kingdom, almost all the men in this council and beyond have sort to lay with her, especially Lord Timon. However she had turned everyone of them down, she as smart as her mother knew the way this world worked.
"My apologies my Lord" he curtseyed. I could feel Lord Sylvester shooting daggers at me but I averted my gaze from his angle and faced the rest of the room.
Again, none of the men met my eyes, I knew about every thing they did behind closed doors, the secrets they didn't want out in the open. It always came in handy in times like this and I'd forever appreciate Alan and Edgar for always doing great jobs.
I placed my locked fingers on the table in front of me, my rings shining under the light.
"The witches have absolutely nothing to do with the bodies found on our dorks. The security are still undergoing investigation and with that, we are all going to wait for them to round up and tell us all they have found. Only then could we administer judgement. Is that clear?"
A series of "yes my Lord" echoed around the hall.
"The meeting is dismissed" they all scrambled to leave, some coming to greet me and the ashamed ones like Lord Timon and his co-horts scramble away like dogs on heat.
Everyone had gone safe for Edgar, Timothy and Beatrice. There was one more person though, I could already feel my anger spread through me as he makes his way over to me.
Lord Sylvester.
"You are making a mistake not taking the witches to war Devon" he hissed. I almost rolled my eyes at his words but I refrained.
We have had this conversation countless times. It was getting old
I turn to face him, a frown contorted in his face and hate so clear in his eyes.
"The witches are not responsible Sylvester" I stated coolly.
"They don't need to be responsible before they are wiped out. We don't even need them-"
"Now that's where you are wrong....." I stood up making him stumble back as I towered over him. "We might not need the witches but they need us. Incase you don't remember what our father taught us Sylvester, let me remind you. Better to keep those who need you around than those you think you need. Those who need you will do anything to have you" Sylvester stared at me with so much hate and disdain in his eyes. He hated when I brought up our father, he foolishly believed our father loved me more, albeit it not being even the slightest bit true, I have never corrected him.
That was when all this hate started.
"You are going to regret this Devon. I promise you" he seethed.
I simply shrugged, much used to his threats by now. He eyed me one last time before marching away.
Edgar whistled immediately he had gone. I slumped back unto my seat in exasperation. I was tired and I needed my bed. It had been from one meeting unto the next and I wasn't even sure when it was going to end.
"He makes his jealousy so obvious" Edgar commented.
"Are you sure he's not going to cause problems in the future? Why not just end him now?" Beatrice commented.
I lifted my eyes to her almost forgetting she was in the room until she spoke. True to her words, she had avoided me like a plague all through this week. If she discussed with me, it was only about work. She never stayed alone with me and I felt like I could breathe. Maybe her love for me had died. I really f*****g hope so. I didn't trust her though, it was always like this after we fight, she'll keep her distance only to come to me from another angle.
I let out a little sigh at her words. I would not deny that killing my cousin had come to my mind several times considering how often he had tried to kill me and always thought I wasn't aware.
But if there is anything I had learnt from my devilish father, it was to keep your enemies alive. It had helped me all through my years of living. Most of the people who work closely for me to this day, started as my enemies. Take Beatrice for an example. She had been sent to kill me and i found out on the first day she joined the council, but I said nothing, simply watching her. Now she's obsessed with me. She'd do anything I asked, no matter what.
Sylvester was no threat to me, at least not yet.
"Let's live him alive for a little longer. His time will come"
_____
The next few meetings I had had soon ended and we were on our way to the next one for today.
"What have the security found with my findings?" I asked Edgar seated beside me in my car.
"Nothing extra other than what you noticed. However a full identity of the man we last saw had been pulled up...."
He drew a file out from his bag and handed it over to me. I scanned it, seeing the full picture of the dead vampire and everything else. Just like I said, he was a human turned one, which made him easier to kill.
There was nothing that I didn't know before so I shut the file with a sigh and handed it over to him.
"Schedule a meeting with the head of securities next week" I ordered.
Edgar nodded and got to it immediately.
Suddenly, a loud thud was heard from the ceiling of the car causing Alan to hitch and jerk the car forcefully into parking, almost tumbling us over.
"The hell is that?" Edgar shrieked.
"I'm sorry my Lords. I'll check it out now" before I had the strength to respond, he was already out of the car.
I swivelled back only to find deserted road and i couldn't sit still anymore, i jumped down too, striding over to meet Alan staring over something on the floor.
Something was burning.
I walked further and a groan so low escaped my throat at the view before me.
It was another burnt body. This one was new and it just happened right now. There was still smoke coming from the body and the wounds were still fresh. The person was dead and as usual it's body black almost turning to ashes.
"What the fuck..." Edgar commented beside me. I bent over, my black gloves already on my hands as I scanned the body, touching some dry sides and turning it over.
This resembled a rush work making me wonder why this was different. The body was thrown over my car so it was more like a message.
I scanned the body again and tried to read their energy. I was able to and soon realized this was a woman Vampire. My heart ached. I saw how she died but of course the face of the person was unknown to me.
Who was responsible for these killings?
"Alan take a picture of this for me?" I requested. Alan immediately captured all the parts I showed to him, his nose scrunching in a grimace.
"Edgar call the security and tell them to come get this body immediately. We don't want people seeing this out here" Edgar nodded and I was walking back into the car.
My head was running and my brain ached. This was the killer unlike the other one that was a mistake made look like the killer, this one wasn't. I could feel her energy and it was usually the same way they were killed. The killer went for weak Vampires, vampires that had just turned and were ignorant of their powers making me wonder why?
Edgar and Alan soon joined me and we continued our journey.
____
"What is the problem now?" Edgar whined when Alan had stopped in the middle of the road. Before Alan could say anything, sounds of g*n shots were heard firing at us and at the car.
"What the f**k is going on?" Edgar yelled as he ducked. The car was bullet proof but I was pretty sure the shooters were aware.
"Our tire has been shot flat my Lord. We can't move"
"Then we f*****g teleport" Edgar whined.
"We can't. It's dangerous" I said, my head turning to find where the shooters are coming from.
After they had shot at the glasses and the car and to no avail. They left.
There was no shooting anymore.
It was quiet for a while and I stepped out, Alan and Edgar stepping behind me.
I glanced around the empty roads, my mind already knowing the one responsible.
About to go back into the car, my name was yelled, but I didn't hear it over the resounding gunshot that was fired.
I didn't feel it, neither did I see it until I felt a warm liquid flowing from my rib.
I heard my name but I didn't answer, I couldn't, I stared long and hard at the wound, the pain not registering until arms were wrapped around me.
"Take me home Alan" I growled out.
