The tension was not wholly dissolved between Victor and Sophia after having talked, but there had been a shift. It wasn't this big gesture, this rush of affection or sudden anything, but it was something-an acknowledgment, perhaps, that they weren't doomed to be living in the same house as strangers forever. She tried a little bit more every day, taking more care with dinner, making meals she thought he might like, and spending time tidying up things in the house so at least the living space felt a little warmer.
