Chapter 40During the quake, Micah managed to get himself out of Trace’s grip, and pushed his way back into the restaurant past the people trying to leave. He returned to the devastation, looking for Don and calling his name. He found groups of people in what had been the private dining room. He got them quickly organized and led them all out of the building. He tried to return, but he found his way suddenly barred by a policeman.
“Are you crazy? The place is on fire, and another shock could bring the entire place down any minute.”
“I have to go in and find my boyfriend, Don. He could be in his office or in the kitchen.” Micah pleaded, but his further entreaties were ignored. The officer reached for his weapon as a further incentive. Micah turned and walked away.
