Chapter Four: Two years Later

1260 Words
KIRA'S POV “I'm impressed with your stats Kira, you've done exceptionally well. Especially for an omega.”. My instructor said as he handed me my certificate. For an Omega… I was happy with his compliment but tired of always being underestimated because I was an Omega. Alpha's got all the praise after all. “Thank you sir.”. I said as I collected the certificate from him. Two years. Huh, it had been two years already since I was accepted into the elite combat training. Two years since…. Hm. I thought I'd have forgotten about it by now, but the memory was still fresh, like it had happened yesterday. “You'll be posted back to the city where you'll continue your training in the Blackthorn pack” Blackthorn? I didn't think I'd need to go back there to finalise my training. At least I'd get to see Lena again. She had been blowing up my phone with texts asking me when I'd come back. It was so cute how much she missed me. She even offered to come pick me up. I told her not to worry that she didn't have to stress herself. “Stop being stubborn and let me come pick you!”. She said over the phone. I could imagine her rolling her eyes while she made that statement. “I already made arrangements so you don't have to worry yourself. I'll come and visit you as soon as I get back”. I said, reassuring her. “Ugh.. fine. If you say so.” “How are you and… Jason. Did you guys come back together?”. I asked. She and Jason had been going on and off for the last two years. They split up two months ago. “Nope. We're done for good this time. He was too toxic and controlling. I needed a break up not a break.”. Finally she had rid herself of that dead weight. “I'm happy you're finally moving on. He was dragging you down anyways.” “Yeah yeah. Enough about me. How's your love life?”. I paused as soon as she asked me that question. I had never really given it much thought, besides after what happened with… her dad, I decided to leave mates and bonds and just focus on my training. I'd find someone else soon… I guess. Or maybe I was just afraid of getting rejected again. “Lena… you know I don't have time for.. love”. I said, reluctantly. “Oh stop it! You're turning 21 soon and you don't even have plans. You never know you could even meet your mate tomorrow. I find it strange that you haven't yet met your mate up until now though.” “Hehe…yeah. Strange”. I said nervously. If only she knew “I'll call you when I get there Lena. I need to complete some uhh… registration… stuff”. “Alright, see you soon Kira. Byeee” “Byee”. I said and ended the call. I took a deep breath and sat down. What if I don't get another mate? Was that even possible? I mean Damien rejected me so I should be able to bond with someone else. Mmm Damien. I wonder if he thought about me… about that night. I sincerely doubted that but it didn't hurt to hope. I let out a deep sigh. I really should forget about him. He, that night, was all in the past. As I got closer and closer to the Blackthorn pack borders I felt a wave of nostalgia. I lived my whole life here, I thought after the training they'd post me to a different location but I just found myself back here. Other trainees went to their family houses to greet their parents. I felt so… different. After my parents separated my dad died. He was never really present in my life so his death didn't change much. My mom? I've not heard from her since the separation. I was left in my aunt's care and she didn't really give a f**k about me. They practically just left me. Thank God for Leah, she was my pillar. I don't know what I'd do without her. It's why that night still haunts me, with guilt. “Kira!”. I heard someone scream my name and the next I know I'm enveloped in a tight bear hug. I smiled softly and hugged her back. “Leah”. I said happily. “I missed you so much, my pumpkin. You look stronger. Come inside quick I made some food for you” She was as hyper as ever “I missed you too.”. I said smiling. I walked into the house and got a whiff of the food she was cooking. I.. started salivating almost immediately. “I know you miss my cooking. I'll put some on the plate for us and then you can tell me all about the training.”. She said excitedly. I nodded and smiled. We didn't always talk much while I was at training. She was also busy with hers here in Blackthorn but our friendship was still as strong as ever. I told her all about it. We talked, laughed and played till she slept off. I went to clean up the kitchen and started walking around the house. I came face to face with the door to the guest room. I gulped, then entered. I looked around and the memories of that night started coming back. It felt like I was reliving it all over again. I shook my head Stay focused. Then I left the room. The next morning I woke up early and left for the training. I almost didn't want to go but I needed that perfect record of attendance. Plus I wanted to prove that being an omega didn't limit my skills. I'd prove to them that I was even stronger than most of their Alpha’s. When I got there everyone was already socialising. Some people's parents had even come to see them at the camp. I went to my quarters to have some rest before the officials came to address us. I was never really one to socialise anyways. I heard the bell ring, it was our signal to fall out. The officials had come to address us. “Good morning my trainees. I'm so glad you've all made it to the final stage. I know it's not easy. But this is a testament that you all have what it takes to be part of our elite comrades. Not all of you here will eventually make it to the final stage, just keep that in mind. It's called the elite comrades for a reason. But while you're here please make the most of it.”. He said and we clapped. “Now for those of you who don't know. You're now under a new head of defense. He's by far our most skilled comrade. He's even the Alpha of the Blackthorn pack”. My brows furrowed. Did I hear that correctly? The official turned to welcome the new head of defense and once I laid eyes on him I felt chills run down my spine. “Please welcome Alpha Damien Veil. Your new head of defense!”. He said and the crowd cheered in applause. I was too stunned to move or speak. Damien was the new head of defense?!
