The reason I ran to the bathroom to vomit was, of course, because of what was in the photo. The photo Wang Junhui gave me was of a half-rotted corpse. One of the corpse’s eyeballs had fallen partially out of its socket, with blood trailing from the corner of the eye. The worst part was that numerous flies and maggots crawled over the facial features. Some maggots were wriggling out from the corpse’s nose and mouth. The other eye was intact but wide open, the pupil dilated to an extreme degree. Holding the photo, I felt as if it was staring directly at me. That unblinking stare, combined with the flies and maggots, created such a visceral revulsion that I naturally ran to the bathroom to throw up.
