Chapter Six- You Again

1803 Words
Lucy fought every muscle in her body to tear herself from her mate and ran out the first door she saw. Luckily it led outside, where she soon spotted her car, which she had totally forgotten about. She completely blocked her scent, so they wouldn't be able to find her, then climbed into her car and sped down the dirt road.  In the distance, she heard a howl, one of pain and loss. She knew it was from him, but she ignored the sudden pain in her chest and kept on driving away. The further away she got, the more she felt like she couldn’t breath, but she knew it was just the mate bond working its oppressing magic on her.   She didn't really know the streets yet, but she could use her senses to get home. "Stupid mutt" she muttered to herself as she glared at the road ahead of her, and she found herself thinking of the dog back home, rather than the one she was running away from.        Thinking about the dog, she didn't even know what it's name was. She would ask Diana. That was a perfect opportunity to use the cellphone she had gotten. She suddenly hit the breaks, and the wheels screeched against the road. She looked down at her feet, to find them bare, and only then did she realize she had left her shoes, and her jacket, which had her phone in it, in the mutts house. She surely wasn't going back, so she just sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose, then stepped on the gas again and kept going.         Once in the confines of her cold apartment, she set on finding out the dog’s name. It took her quite a while to think of something, but she welcomed the distraction from those hunting green eyes and that forest scent.         "OK doggie, what should we name you?" She was talking to the dog, and he looked straight at her. She knew he could understand her, she just wished she could understand him. "Mmm I know. How about Howie?" The dog growled at her. "OK no. How about Cookie monster." She laughed at her own lame joke. The dog just turned around and laid on the couch. "Hey hey hey. Get down from there." He just turned his head to look at her, then turned back and laid his head on top of his paws. She sighed, then sat beside him." OK fine, whatever. Why don't you just tell me what you want me to call you?" She asked and the dog perked up at the idea. He lifted his head and barked at her cheerfully. Luci found herself chuckling "bark? Is that it?" She teased the dog. He growled at her, and fully laughed this time. "Aahh, I see. Growl. You want to be called growl." She patted the dog's head, that's kinda lame buddy. "The dog shook her hand off his head and then sat up. Lucy was taken by surprise as he quickly jumped down from the couch, and stood right in front of her. He howled, Luci thought he looked beautiful and majestic, almost like a wolf, and that though headed somewhere she didn't want it to go. "Howl" she said to him, and the dog walked up to her and put his front paws on her lap, then licked her face. To her own surprise, instead of pushing him back and wiping the saliva away, she hugged him to her and laughed as he did it again.  Despite the aching in her chest, she felt content, relaxed even, something she hadn't felt in a long, long time.        One of her angel assistants dropped by her house that evening and gave her a stack of paperwork. She might have been playing around with Death, and she could now have the whole weight of the mate bond on her shoulders, but she still had a job to do; she finished all her judgments that same night, and then, although she didn't actually need it, she went to sleep. She still had school in the morning.         Xavier walked up to his room silently; after running around in his wolf form for hours to try and find a scent, he was exhausted. He just prayed to the moon goddess that he could find her again someday, somehow. He walked into his room, and her sweet scent still lingered there lightly. He sat on the left side of his bed, grabbed the pillow on the right side and inhaled deeply. He knew he probably looked like a creep, but he didn't care. He remembered her leaving without her jacket and began looking around for it. He found it on the floor, on her side of the bed.  He picked it up and brought it to his nose to smell it, drowning in her deliriously intoxicating scent. He then looked through the pockets and found her cell phone. It didn't have any password or pattern so he simply unlocked it and went to her contacts. She might have a home phone number, or somewhere he could find her. She didn't have any contacts besides a 'D' and 'school.'  If she went to school, that's where he could find her. He knew winter break was nearing, so he had to be quick about it. He called the number from his phone and was met with the Statsen University operator. 'Statsen huh? Not bad my little mate.' He thought to himself, hope once again bubbling within him. She was so close that whole time. That night he fell asleep with her jacket in his arms, wishing it would soon be replaced by her body.        Lucy had two early classes the next day. She decided to “major” in humanities since she had all the history of the world passed down to her by her predecessor. It was like she had a whole enciclopedia in her head that she could access at any time. She was familiar with all the history, religions, governments, art styles and geographical changes that happened over the years, so her classes were easy to her, but she already hated school. She had to pretend to listen to pathetic humans who thought they knew better than her. She soon came to realize that humans knew even less than she thought. They didn’t even know what Stonehenge was! The very reason she hadn’t taken astronomy classes was to not hear humans spout nonsense like “God’s eye nebula” but she ended up in a far more irritating situation. She was so aggravated that she found herself daydreaming through her classes, and nothing more filled her mind than those amazing green eyes, that alluring scent, and those lips that she had been oh so close to touching with her own.             She broke out of her trance as she heard Howl bark from the other side of her apartment door. She was already home and hadn't even realized it. She opened the door and Howl eagerly jumped on her with his leash in his mouth. He drooled on her face and she let out a frustrated scream, pushing him off of her. She quickly got up, before he could climb on top of her again and, after sighing, held her hand out for him to put the leash in. She tossed her bag inside the apartment before clipping the leash to the collar, and locking the door behind them as they walked out.        She took him to a small park close to campus she had seen while walking home. It had a small fountain in the middle, where people threw coins in, a little playground, with swings and all, and a few benches lining the pathways. Howl made her jog for a bit, and she was glad she decided to wear her combat boots, and not heels that morning. After finally getting Howl to stop running, she took him through the grass, towards the swings. He walked beside her eagerly, looking all happy to be outside instead of cooped up in the apartment.  She just sat there for a while, swinging slowly with Howl by her side, thinking about everything that had been going on the past few days, completely unaware that the reason for her tormented sighing was no more than a few minutes away.        Xavier walked through campus; he didn't know what she was majoring in, so it was hard to know where to look, and the place was a whole town in itself. There really was no way to know when she had class or if she lived on campus, or anything really, but he wasn’t going to give up; even if it took him days or weeks or months or even years, now that he knew she was out there, he would never give up.  He had Adam and Ethan, along with many other pack members, looking through other parts of the campus, but no one found anything. They had decided to meet back at the same park they began their search at hours before and Xavier, being the first one to clear his area, walked back there hopelessly. He was at the edge of the park when he got hold of her scent. She had been at the park all that time, they had merely missed her. He felt hope reignite within him, and walked eagerly to the part of the park where the playground was at. He watched from afar as his precious mate animatedly talked to a little girl with golden locks, held into pigtails. She crouched down and touched the little girls head, then tapped her nose, making her erupt in a fit of giggles. He smiled to himself, thinking about what a great mother she would make to his own little girl back home. He continued to look as the little girl whispered something in her ear, reached over to kiss her cheek, then left, running back to her mother. He began walking towards her slowly, as if to not scare her, while she straightened up.  Xavier admired her as she walked over to the side of the swings, and only then did he notice the huge white husky tied to the pole. The dog looked at him first, big blue eyes becoming smaller as he glared, bared his canines and growled ferociously at him. Xavier was taken aback by the dog's action, so he stopped when he was just close enough to have a private conversation with her.         "So you do have a dog." He said, looking at the dog.  When he turned to look at her, he noticed she could have drilled holes in the side of his head with her eyes. He found it quite amusing and adorable how much her expression mimicked the one the dog had when he first neared.       Her response delayed just a second, enough for her to huff before she spoke, "you again."
