Lucifer's Mate

Chapter Nine- Finally

     Katie came back running towards them, at the same time they heard the commotion outside. After regaining their composure, both of them quickly ran outside to see what was happening. They spotted Howl in the middle of the gravel driveway, growling and snapping his jaw at anyone who tried to get near him.

     "Howl" cried Luci and ran towards him. "Step off" she commanded,running towards him, and everyone was shocked at the power her voice had over them, it provoked a primal obedience in their wolves, just like an alpha command, but stronger. She caught herself just in time and backed her authority off a little before the men started questioning what had happened. 

    She pushed through the men circling the dog and steeped in front of him defensively. Howl stepped around her and stood by her side, still growling at all the wolves.

    The men were all a bit shaken, but they did not welcome a command that didn’t come from their alpha and took a defensive stance against her.

       Xavier was caught staring at his mate dumbfoundedly by his sister, who was running behind little Katie. "Close your mouth baby bro, you're drooling" she whispered behind his ear.

     He snapped his head in her direction and glared at her, "am not" he cried defensively, but there was a visible blush creeping up his neck to his ears.

     "Better go help her out instead of staring at her ass" his sister teased again. 

Xavier was a nervous mess "I was- I just- was not!" He settled at the end. 

Annie cracked up laughing at his expression, and only wished, once again, to never find her mate, and if it was inevitable that she did find him, she prayed to the moon goddess to not be as whipped as her brother. 

       "Dogie!" Cried Katie from beside X. "Daddy I wanna touch" she told him, eagerly pulling him toward everyone by his hand. Xavier let himself be dragged out by Katie, never taking his eyes off his fierce mate. She just wasn’t afraid of anything, he liked that.

    Xavier neared the crowd calmly, he knew his pack would not attack unless he commanded it and by the looks of it, it seemed his mate could defend herself quite well. While his poise was calm, he could’t keep his wolf from shinning through his voice, “I’d be very careful who I anger if I were you boys. I’ll let it slide today ‘cause I’m feeling quite happy, but  if any of you so much as look at MY MATE that way again, I will tear your throat out with my own two hands,” Xavier finished as he entered the circle of men and handed Katie to Lucy as he stood in front of them, looking at the men infront of him, his eyes flashing gold in his struggle to control his wolf. “Do I make myself clear?” 

    The men eased their stanced and vowed to their alpha in unison “yes alpha,” and kept their heads down until Xavier relaxed and brought his mate to his side. The men raised their heads for a second before speaking, “Luna,” and vowed their heads again.

    Xavier stood beside Lucy and told everyone else they could just take her luggage and leave the dog with them. Lucy just stood there, defensive, as if waiting for someone to attack. "Calm down beautiful" he whispered in her ear, and snaked one arm behind her, around her waist and pressed her to his side.

       She hated the effect he had on her, but did as told anyways. She looked down to look at Howl, but instead was met by a pair of huge brown eyes, looking up at her. She fell in love, there was no other way to put it. She crouched down, to be at eye level with the little girl, totally forgetting about her earlier anger. "Hi," she said smiling.

       "Hi" Katie said shyly in a small voice, which X found weird, considering Katie was usually very chatty with everyone. 

       "What's your name, princess?" Luci asked in a soothing tone.

       "Kathin, but you call me Katie" she hurried to specify.

       "That's a beautiful name," said Luci.

       "Tha- thank you." She said looking down at the ground. "Wha- what yu name?" She asked curiously, looking up at Lucy with those big beutiful brown eyes of hers.

       "My name is Lucia Fernanda, but you can call me Lucy" she managed to give the girl a wide smile, not missing the questioning look Xavier gave her before he went to receive her car keys from one of the men that were there before.

       Katie edged toward her slowly, to whisper in her ear. Luci leaned over to her slightly, to give her more access to her ear. "Can I touch?"

 Lucy looked back at her, confused, then remembered what the little girl in the park had said, and smiled. 

       "Of course you can, but when nobody's around" she whispered back, then both looked up at Xavier’s smiling face as he approached them again.

      "Daddy you go way pis?" Asked Katie, nonchalantly, and Lucy burst out laughing at his shocked face. 

      Howl was now sitting by her side, but still on full alert.

     "What have you done to my daughter?" He asked Lucy in fake hurt, mesmerized by the sound of her laughter. 

     'Daughter' she thought to herself. He had a daughter with another woman, yet one look at Katie made her completely forget she should be hurt that her mate had a child. She blinked and wondered what his daughter had done to HER.

    Lucy and Katie stared up at him, eyes wide and happy, and in that moment he swore to himself that he would sell his soul to the devil if necessary in order to keep those looks on their faces for the rest of their lives.

       Xavier sighed and raised his hands in sign of surrender "fine, fine, I'm going" and indeed proceeded to walk away, mumbling under his breath something about some time away and not being excited to see him.

       Lucy turned back to Katie, only to find her staring back at her in amasement . "You want to touch them don't you?”

    Katie nodded eagerly, the two pigtails at her sides bouncing around her shoulders. 

    “Well, go ahead" Lucy encouraged. Katie slowly and shakily reached her hand up and over Luci's shoulder. "Woow" she whispered to herself as she caressed Luci's wings. "They so butiful" she said, totally awed, “and so fluffy,” she finished.

       Luci now got serious "listed Katie. You can't tell anyone OK?" 

       "Hm, what?" 

       "My wings, you see princess, other people can't see them like you can" Lucy tried explaining, she was a little worried that people would start asking questions she wasn’t ready to answer just yet.

      "Can't? But- but they so so big!" she spread her little arms around as far as they went to show just how big she thought they were. She seemed totally confused and Luci feared she might not be able to convince her to keep quiet.  

       She suddenly had an idea. "Nope. No one else,but you, can see them. You wanna know why?" Katie nodded eagerly. "Because only beautiful princesses can see them" she finished tapping Katie's nose. 

    Katie giggled and her eyes sparkled, “weally?” 

    Luci laughed at her expression, before continuing "so, you see why you can't tell anyone, right?"

       "It's a pwincess secwet!" She exclaimed before covering her mouth with her hands.before whispering, “it’s a pwincess secwet.”

    Luci smiled back at her “exactly, yours and mine only,” she said to her as the grabbed one of her pigtails in on of her hands and curled it around one of her fingers, sliding it down until the hair fell back onto Katie’s side.

       Luci let Katie touch and feel her wings just a little more. Sometimes she would even scratch right at the top, and her wings would flutter on their own. "Daddy's wof like that too" she laughed, and soon she had moved on to scratch behind Howl's ears as well.

       After that, she convinced Katie they should go back inside and let the little angel lead her way. Katie took her straight to the kitchen and there, she saw all five wolves from the mall, Xavier included. They all looked up at her. The brunette girl and boy, with soft smiles; the black headed boy with a full out, kind of creepy, grin; the blond girl that looked so much like Xavier, with a blank look on her face; and Xavier, Xavier looked at her with so much glee, so much admiration, and... love, that it almost made her go weak in the knees. 

    Xavier quickly got up and placed Katie in a stool beside Annie. Lucy just stood there looking only at him, while he walked back to her and stood beside her, once again, placing his hand around her waist. It seemed like it was becoming a habbit to him, and although they had agreed they would be no funny bussiness, at that moment, feeling the sparks of his touch run around her body like dust particles in a ray of sunlight, she couln’t care less about any agreement they had made before, and smiled only at him.

      Xavier’s smile widdened in responce to hers, then he turned to his friends, "guys, this is Luci, my mate" he finished looking down and pressing a kiss on the top of her head. "Luci, this is Lilly and Ethan, my gamma" he said pointing to the two brunettes, who just kept smiling "they're mates. The other dork is Adam, he's my beta. And that hot stuff right there is my twin sister-"

       "Older sister" corrected Annie.

       "Pff. Whatever. Like I was saying, she's Amayrani, but everybody calls her Annie, EXCEPT, Katie. She calls her Ama" he finished with a cheeky grin, and grabbed her by the shoulers, then turned her to look at him. "I'll tell you the whole story later OK?" He whispered in her ear and hugged her, laying his head on her shoulder and taking a deep breath.

       Luci was in shock. She was his sister, more importantly, why did that matter to her? She wasn't supposed to care, she wasn't supposed to get attached, not to him, not to anyone there. Still, she was already completely in love with his daughter. She hadn't even noticed that he was full on hugging her, until she heard a 'get a room' with a slight Mexican accent, and a 'that's our cue to leave,' followed by several pairs of feet walking away. 

       She placed her hands on Xavier's chest to try and push him away, but got distracted by all the muscles there. 'Hell, he's so strong' she thought to herself, then slid her hands higher to his shoulders. 'Mine' the thought came to her, and a smile crawled its way up to her face. She pushed him away just enough to look into his eyes, but his arms remained around her tightly. Her hands kept exploring until they came to his face, and the only thing she could see, with her hands covering his cheeks, were his lips. 

       Xavier was looking down at her, she had him in a trance. She had him totally wrapped around her beautiful little finger and didn't even notice. He had felt his heart swell at the thought of her being jealous and then when he saw how good she was with Katie. At the moment, what really made his heart race were her hands trailing upwards into his hair. He stared down at her, her eyes were focused on his lips. Her tongue snuck out of her mouth, and her lips sparkled under the light. He found himself repeating her actions, and when she looked up to his eyes, and the most beautiful of smiles graced her face, the only thing in his mind, as his lips landed on hers was 'finally.'
