The door clicked shut with more force than necessary.
Daniel Blackwood stormed into his father’s private lounge inside the top floor of the company a room meant for peace, but now crackling with tension.
“Father, you can’t be serious he barked at his father who was seated in his usual chair by the tall window, his back straight, and his eyes calm.
Daniel didn’t wait for his father's response before throwing another or several questions at him.
What the hell was that father why did you do it?” He asked his voice brimming with anger
But his father did not even stir or flinch at his son's voice instead he turned his glass of wine slowly on the table, the wine inside barely rippling.
Before looking up smiling at his son and giving a response that was totally different from the question he had been asked.
“Good evening to you too, son he responded
To which daniel threw his hand in the air in annoyance
Don’t start with that father don't try to change the subject.
You know what you did was way out of line.” He barked at Henry.
To which Henry raised a brow and asked
“And what exactly did I do that was so outrageous?”
Daniel scoffed. “You met two strange kids outside, you invited them into this company, and now you’re saying they might be my children? What is wrong with you?”
“I didn’t just meet them,” Henry said coolly. “They were almost hit by my car.”
Daniel blinked. “What?”
“They ran into the road right in front of the building and thank Goodness that frank stepped on the break just in time and when I got out, and got a good look at them properly, I knew something was off because the both of their faces…”
He trailed off, studying his son’s reaction.
Daniel looked away. “You’re hallucinating father.”
“No, I’m not.”
Daniel turned back I think you are father he replied because if you are not why would you think that just because two kids look like me, they’re mine like what kind of twisted logic is that?”
Henry sat back before asking Daniel a question that threw him off
Okay son I have heard you but just answer me this question have you ever slept with a woman before?”
Daniel frowned, caught off-guard. “What kind of question is that he asked?”
“A simple one Henry replied”
Which made Daniel’s jaw tense up before responding “
Not since I can remember I don't think I have ever slept with a woman he replied.”
“Exactly,” Henry said quietly. “Since you can remember.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
And then Henry leaned forward, voice lowering, sharpening.
“Do you remember six years ago?”
Daniel’s brow furrowed. “Six years ago…”
“The night of the fundraiser the private event at Crown View Hotel. You left the party early. .
I thought it was because of work stress, but then you never made it home and hours later, we got the call. Car accident.”
Daniel exhaled slowly. His hands dropped to his sides.
“You were unconscious for almost two days,” Henry continued. “When you woke up, you didn’t remember most of what happened that week. You insisted you were fine and you buried yourself in work, and we never brought it up again.”
“I still don’t see how this connects to”
“What if something happened that night?” Henry asked, cutting in because to the best of my knowledge I knew you went into a hotel with a woman that night so what if there was a child that came from that encounter?”
Daniel stared at him, blinking.
“No,” he said after a beat. “No. That’s impossible.”
“Why?”
“Because I know myself!” Daniel said tightly. “I would never sleep with someone I barely knew, let alone someone like her you saw her she is not even”
“Not your type?” Henry asked, raising a brow.
“Do you think I care about your type? This is not about preferences.
Daniel ran a hand through his hair, pacing. “This is insane.”
“Is it?” Henry asked quietly. “Those boys are about six years old, aren’t they? Same time same look same eyes, they looked at lot like you when you were their age Daniel.”
“There’s still no proof.”
“That’s why I took the hair.”
Immediately Daniel froze.
His back was turned, but his body went rigid.
“You what?”
“I took a few strands of their hair.
From their collars while they were in the car they were too distracted to notice.”
Daniel turned slowly, voice low and dangerous. “You took their hair without permission.”
“Yes.”
Why Daniel asked but responded to it himself
“is it to run a DNA test?”
“Exactly Henry replied without blinking.
Which made daniel laugh out bitterly.
“Father you really are unbelievable”
“I’m doing what you refused to do Henry responded trying to justify himself.”
“I never asked for this!” Daniel snapped. “I’m not interested in playing dad to someone I don’t even know!”
Henry stood up now, his voice rising just slightly calm but firm.
“And yet you had no issue playing CEO of an empire I built.”
Daniel’s breath hitched.
Henry walked closer, eyes piercing. “You hide behind this company behind your cold suits and clipped replies.
You treat emotion like a weakness.
But I see the truth.
You’re scared.”
“I’m not scared,” Daniel bit back.
“You are my son Henry responded.
Daniel stepped back, swallowing hard. “This is inappropriate, Father and invasive and I won’t be a part of it.”
“I don’t need your permission,” Henry said softly.
“The test is already in progress.”
Silence fell.
Daniel looked at him like he didn’t recognize him anymore.
“I mean it,” he said slowly.
“If this gets out… if that woman finds out what you did, you’ll be the one facing her wrath.
Henry only gave a small nod.
“I’ll handle it.”
Daniel stared at him for a long moment. Then, with a sharp breath, he grabbed his jacket.
“Whatever game you’re playing, leave me out of it.”
And he walked out, the door shutting behind him with a low, echoing thud.
