Maggie sat quietly in one of the club chairs in the living room as she read through the journal the next morning. I excused myself and headed in to the office explaining I had to catch up on a little work. Instead, I pulled up a news site and searched for the San Bruno murder and Alan Ritter’s name. I found links to two articles, both very brief. In one, the victim’s name had been withheld, pending notification of next of kin. In the other, no mention was made of a robbery. I didn’t learn much from either, only what I already knew, if that was even accurate. Alan Ritter was a graduate student at California State University San Francisco and he had been found dead in the parking lot of the Stop-N-Store warehouse in San Bruno.
