Chapter 9: Jacket

He didn't even talk nor ask for a second so I continued talking. “I only wanted the truth coming from my parents, but they don't want to open up with that kind of conversation. If I will ask one of my relatives, they would only stare at me and change the topic.” Devon's doe monolid eyes are the pair of eyes that you will never resist when you meet it with yours, and so I felt comfortable telling some of what's in my mind after his mini-lecture for me. And he looks more youthful with his bowl-cut hair and nice jawline. “Don't stare too deep at me, I will melt.” he said with a chuckle, and he continues “Go on, I'll listen.” “So... yeah,” I let out a heavy sigh, “After 2 years of the coma I was only a human without a memory. It was a miracle that I am still alive, as they said before right after I was discharged from the hospital.” I stared at the cold cappuccino, fingers touching the rim of the cup while I drew a little smile, “Mom and dad were the best, yet they're the most secretive persons that you will ever have. Maybe there's a reason why they wouldn't tell me, but I'm dying for answers.” Devon nodded, as he leaned his back again on the chair, still listening and not minding the stares of the people around him. Maybe some of them know who he is and this is dangerous. I don't want a bloodbath and magic dust inside this coffee shop! “Chill, they won't. Besides once that they step away from this coffee shop, their memories about me visiting here would be erased. Continue to share your thoughts, Syd.” “Can you stop using your telepathy on me?” He gives in a little pout before he huffs, “But I can't help it though. Can you help me out?” and the little devil right in front of me smirked, which made me quickly slap his arm. Ugh, this man! He's teasing me with all of his magic and I hate it to the guts! “But on a serious note, I think you need my jacket. I feel like you're freezing because of the big air conditioner behind your back.” Dang... So that's the reason why I feel so cold lately, damn I didn't notice it at first either. Devon proceeds on taking off his jacket, and before he could give it to me, a group of male customers just arrived in the coffee shop. Some are in their casual wear, and the other one in all black. They were on the counter, talking about some stuff that I don't know. If I didn't notice the aircon earlier, now I noticed those boys in a blink of an eye that made me froze to my seat. This... This can't be... No way! Those boys are Chase's friends! The heck! What do I do, what do I do, what do I do! “Is there something bothering you?” Devon raised a brow as he noticed me, “You're pale, do you recognize someone who bullies you inside the academy?” then he glances at his back to which I squeaked. “Don't look behind your back! I beg you, I beg you, I beg you. They will notice me— give me that jacket!” Devon was quite shocked by my sudden behavior, “Are you pretty sure you're alright? There must be someone that makes you uncomfortable, tell me who he is or... who they are.” I quickly covered my whole head with his green jacket, my heart racing because of fear. Fear that what if Chase's friends would find me out here and have a wrong idea about me meeting a man in this coffee shop? I'm really doomed! I am in the middle of my overthinking and panicking and thinking of what should I do to cover up this man in front of me when a warm palm is pressed on my head. He's patting me again but this time in a more gentle way that I even lift my jacket to see his face. As I stare at him, I feel like I'm being hypnotized by his actions, and I don't know why but I feel too safe and... dreamy. “Tell me, who made my Broken Omega uncomfy, hm?” “I won't tell you who or who they are, Devon. Is this your magical way to make me answer?” “If giving you head pats without some magic going on, then why not?” “The what? You didn't give off some magic on your head pat?” I lifted his palm that's much bigger and slender than mine. He has manly hands, to which I cleared my throat for a teeny tiny bit. It's not the time to be pleased. “Why? Do you feel warm when someone gives you a little pat on your head?” I was going to answer when I notice one of Chase's friends wanders his eyes inside the place. If he sees me, for sure he'll reveal it to Chase and he'll be furious of me going out with someone I barely met. He's a protective being yet gentle, and I don't want to break his promise as much as possible. Yet here I am, chasing a dork vampire who tells me all the truth he can bring, and all I have to do is to hide and conceal it. Ugh, why am I so dumb on planning that requires concealing in a situation like this! I have one idea, maybe that would make it even awkward but I have no choice. Chase's friends are also keeping an eye on me, eyes like cheetahs, too sharp and precise. So I have to do this. And then, this chaos of mine and this vampire would completely stop. After this, I will be the only one to sort out my past. Without the help of others or anyone or any beast. And I let out a sigh of courage. While Devon is busy looking outside he still has his ears and attention to me. “Devon, look at me.” he places his gaze on me, and those brown doe eyes again meets mine. His arms are placed on the table, “Hm? Yes, Syd?” “I know, I have no position to do this but– I know you will hate me after this.” I whispered lowly, my palm rubs his cheeks softly, “I'm really sorry, this is the only thing in my mind that I can hide well. This is for the both of us.” I enveloped the jacket around our heads quickly, and in a swift motion, our faces are close as ever. Our nose almost touching and my heart beating fast. He's really so close to me at this rate. And I don't know if I can survive his stares! His eyes travel from my eyes down to my nose and lips in a slow manner. Oh Celestials, help me here! I don't want to be stuck with Devon Filosoir ever again!
