Chapter 14: Awestruck

1087 Words
Chase and that lady entered the house, there must be something going on. They have connections. A connection that I don't know, not even his friends I suppose. But what is that relationship? I am so confused about all of what's happening this day. I almost got killed by rogues, and I have to deal with an ancient vampire, then this! Now that I have a strong doubt on my parents, I am starting to doubt him too. I don't know what to feel... If I should be angry, or sad. What if he knew my memories? Is just that he's hiding it because every one of my relatives knew him and he was my best friend. Or... It is only a drama to cover up my past. That we weren't friends, and that we weren't even related with each other. A set-up to begin with. Suddenly I almost jump out of my place when a cold hand instantly grabs my shoulder. I turned around to see who it was, and I almost fainted because of his pale face. “What are you doing here?” Devon said in a low pitch, his other hand clutching the handle of my lance case, “And yeah, you forgot your case.” I can't even talk nor move because of his sudden appearance. Suddenly, those memories of him when we almost fought together against the wolves entered my mind, and how he became so gentle with me. But now, those gentlenesses are gone in his demeanor and his eyes. He seems so... tired. I quickly grab the case away from him and bowed. And before I can walk away from a possible drama again, he sauntered and stood in front of me, “Don't lie, why are you here? I know it's not only because of the lance.” “Read my mind, you'll now—” “And about that mind-reading, I'm...” he sighs, closing his eyes for a split second before he met his eyes again on mine, “I'm sorry.” That word felt a little pang in my heart. How can he even say it in a low and gentle voice? I... I can feel my cheeks burning that I chose to lie my head low in embarrassment. Dang, it! It's not the time to feel flattered! “I know, I did invade your privacy too much that you felt suffocated. You weren't ready for all of that truth that I passed on my plate. And all... All of my weird actions towards you. I didn't realize that it will make you uncomfortable.” and at the corner of my eye, I see him giving in an apologetic smile. Rubbing my fingers on the rough lance casing, I still don't have an idea on what should I reply to his apology. Though my anger towards him subsided a bit, I know myself very well. I am not that kind of woman or even a werewolf who can forgive easily. “Don't worry, I'll never use my mind-reading on you ever again, Broken Omega. And I will never bug you ever again.” and I only nodded, the coolness and crispness of the night air didn't help my mix of emotions here. “I will never bug you again after I finish my business here.” wait what? What's he up to again? “What are you planning in this little house?” “What are you planning also outside the gates of this little house? Broken Omega.” I huff at his unexpected question, which I don't want to answer. So I stood beside him, silent. “You look like a creep, peeping outside the gates of this vintage-looking house. Unless you aren't a creep for the owner's eyes.” he glances at me before he presses the doorbell. A thing no one touches on Chase's home. What if Chase will see me with him? He would be furious as hell, he doesn't like a random stranger suddenly butts in beside me. He's Chase and he's the protective alpha that everyone knows! Before I can even run away, Devon quickly grabs the back collar of my shirt, picking me upwards as if I'm a cat. “What the hell Devon Filosoir! Put me down! I don't want to be a part of this possible mess again!” “Why? Aren't you gonna meet the owner of the house?” “I don't know the owner of the house! I— 'm... I'm just curious cause the house looks nice!” I said loudly while I try to pull myself down, argh! If only gravity doesn't exist I'll just gonna smack him down using my feet. I kick my feet in the air, saying a series of "put me down" but he didn't even budge, “You would tell me the truth? Or Nah.” “That's– That's the truth! I swear I swear! Now put me down—” that was the last sentence I said before he suddenly puts me down on the ground. My butt first before my legs. That darn vampire, he can't even place me properly. Someone inside the house went out, it must be Chase since he's the one usually that picks up the gates. I bet his grandma isn't also inside. But in a flash, Devon took his high leap and landed inside the house without a single hard effort. And a loud crash on the gate startled me from my feet. Did... did he just kicked Chase to the gates? Another person goes out of the house when she heard the loud thud, is that the lady from earlier? I can't tell because of the thick green bushes of the corners of the gates! I can even hear shouting, and I wanted to run away. But... Chase! I can't leave Chase behind. I am still contemplating what should I do! Fuck what do I do? I have no choice. I pulled out my lance, and throw the case away. I stood slowly, not minding the pain in my butt, and focused on my standing tall lance. The diamond tip reflecting the pretty moonlight within its edges. And I closed my eyes, reciting the chant with ease and confidence. Loudly enough for the person inside the house to hear. “From the ancestors of the East Caspia, passing down from generation to generation. I call light, wind, and the spirit of the moon empress! I, Sydney Heartlocke, commands the Divine Lance. To struck by your gracious light of this night!” I raised my lance, and the white light and beams covered me and the whole lance. “Prepare to be awestruck, Vampire Prince!”
