Chapter 3: Lance

1347 Words
Warm, comforting wind welcomes my morning today. I feel so refreshed from my sleep last night. I don't know why, but I feel so much better than before! But what did I do yesterday to deserve this satisfying rest? Oh yeah right, I remembered going out of the convenience store to get some toothbrush and a bottle of shampoo. Also, noodles since I feel like eating ramen for dinner. And so I got up and sat on my bed. Watching the sunrise by my wide sliding glass window in front of me. It's a perfect day to do the basics and get going for Sword Spar Classes, and I smiled at my thoughts. But then my smile faded instantly when I can't see my lance case to where I usually put it. I tried finding it inside my room. Under my bed, my big drawers, and in my comfort room. Yet I can't even find it elsewhere. So I tried going down to the first floor of the house, looking under the couch, or the TV monitors, or even at the kitchen and living room. But not even a sight of a black, long case has seen. This is weird... I always bring the lance with me whenever I go outside. It can't get lost. I tried remembering again what happened yesterday. And so I dashed up into my room again, going on the comfort room if I did buy the toiletries. Yet I found nothing. This is weird. Really, weird. “Josh! Cassidy! Get here downstairs, I have something to talk about!” I called them out, knocking on both of their doors since their rooms are beside each other. “What? What's with the sudden call big sis?” The first door revealed my little sister, Cassidy, still wearing her pjs and her tablet in her hand. While Josh, my little brother opens the second door, holding his game console with both hands. Eyes squinting twice before he looks at me, “Yeah, I barely got sleep... What's wrong?” “Sorry for interrupting with your businesses this morning, but have you seen my lance somewhere inside this house?” They exchanged glances for a second before Cassy spoke, “Why would you find it from us big sis? You usually bring it with you for sparring class, right?” “Yeah, that's the weird thing since I can't find it in my room.” I walked in which they followed me to my room. Opening the door wide before I show them what's inside, “See?” “Maybe you left it on a place you went last night, big sis.” Cassidy cited, to which Josh nodded in agreement while he still squints his eyes lazily. “Or maybe...” Josh yawned, stretching his arms out in the air, “Maybe it's been sitting outside right?” “Yeah, yeah. Don't panic too much sis!” my little sister patted my back, reassuring me with her pretty smile, “I'm sure that's here somewhere in the house. Gosh, your lance would be fine.” And then they returned to their respective rooms as soon as I said that I will find it myself. They insist on helping at first but I declined them. They're having fun with what they're doing and I don't want to interrupt. So, with my pjs on, I went to the backyard and pulled out my bicycle. I don't want to wake Chase up, cause I know he's still snoring until now. It was still 5:45 in the morning, and I still have to be early for class. I ride on my bicycle at first. But I had a hard time cycling downhill since it's too rocky, so first I went downhill, walking while I led the bike first before I hop unto it. When we're at the plain side of the hill already, I started to cycle swiftly as I enter the woods. The ride wasn't boring and I enjoy it so much since I get to see the perfect sunshine above. Not too much, but a perfect ray of light that illuminated the green trees around me. Dazzling bloom of flowers and fruits everywhere. 'That's what you get from taking care of the wilderness' as my mom would always say to us, her children. Back to my subject for this morning, I bet the lance is still there on the convenience store. I know because no one can steal it from my watch. If ever that someone stole the lance, my left palm will create a green and red haze. Except if a powerful werewolf can corrupt its ownership. The lance is so important to me since it was a gift from my 17th birthday. It holds not only the power to defeat rogue wolves and the forces of the dark but my memories of using that spear. I don't want someone to tarnish its power and use it against my kind. I wanted to help and stand for the good. That's my dream, to be a werewolf knightess and prove to everyone that Betas like me can kick off enemies, and those who try to destroy our territory. The wind blows serene, and finally, I made it down to the main road to Caspia City! I can see the convenience store near, so I fasten up my drive to the store. I don't want to waste time, I have a class to attend. The door of the store opened, revealing the store owner, and she saw me right after I went down on my bicycle, waving her hands with her usual smile etched on her face. She is a pretty elder omega, and she always wears her eyeglasses. “You seem to be in a hurry, little beta. What brings you here?” she asked as I parked the bike right next to the post light near the store. “Madame Valencia, did you see my lance here in your store? I know I left it somewhere here. Did you see it?” “Well, speaking of the lance...” she pointed to the vendo machine, besides the vendo machine is a long black case standing, “I saw someone placing your lance at my Slurpee vendo machine less than a minute ago– oh that was him!” she pointed again, and I instantly changed my gaze to where she pointed at. I saw the man she focused on, and he is strolling gracefully with a military green coat on. His hair was in a bowl cut, his hands are perfectly tucked in his coat pocket, and his back facing us from afar. But why does he look so familiar to me? As if I know him before... “That lad was extremely charming.” Madame Valencia giggles, to which I raised a brow while I pick my lance from the vendo, “He even helped me carry my big powdered milk boxes from the supermarket. I just loaded some stuff today since my inventory is slowly decreasing...” I watched him from afar, observing his every movement. He is still walking beside the ray of evergreen trees. The leaves falling swift within every step he takes. I didn't even listen to Mamita's blabber about him, and just focused on him even more. I just wanted to see his face and remember him, cause he seems very familiar to me. Clutching my case by my hand, the man that I'm watching stopped right at a coffee shop. He took a glance and his side view is exposed, surprisingly Madame was right. He is charming, possessing that brown doe eyes and a strong nose. Even though that was the only view that I got, that triggered a lot of memories... The memories from last night that I barely remember. “Under the majestic half-moon of the Caspian Highlands, with all of the elements watching me in this awakening...” He turned around, and I fully see his face. Now he suits the bowl cut rather than the raven curly long hair he had yesterday. Gasp. “I, Devon Filosoir, commands the Divine Lance to protect me and this defected werewolf from any harm, and appear us like a mist of the wind!”
