"There are people who aren't close to you, who are far away, but help much more than those who have known you for a long time and are always nearby."

I left college and went straight to the mall, spent all I could, had a snack, and when I got home, it was already six in the evening. As soon as I entered, I saw my father on the sofa with his head bowed, but I didn't ask, I went upstairs and left the bags on my bed. Suddenly, I heard my bedroom door being pushed, opened it, and saw my father with very red eyes and sniffling because he was drunk.
"Dad, did you drink again?" he asked, looking at me and entering the room, pushing me. "What are you doing?" I said, startled.
He started to take off his belt and I watched him.
"Relax, sweetheart... there's nothing better than losing your virginity with your father." He spoke like a monster and a maniac. My eyes widened and I backed away, I couldn't believe my own father was doing this to me.
"No, you're out of your mind, please stop."
"I'm completely fine." He grabbed me by the arm and I struggled.
"Let me go." I kicked him in the middle of his legs, which made him double over in pain. I looked at him one more time with tears in my eyes and went down the stairs. Soon he was at the top of them shouting:
"IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO SATISFY ME, DON'T EVER COME BACK TO THIS HOUSE, YOU TRAMP."
"I won't come back," I said crying and ran out of there... I didn't know where I was going, I was lost, without friends, without acquaintances, without a home, and without a father. I was utterly disgusted by him... I still had the credit card in my pocket, although I didn't want anything more from that creep, I decided to go to the bank to withdraw money, took a bus to near the college which was right in the city center, the sky was already getting dark, I sat in a corner on the sidewalk and curled up, starting to cry... I even left my cell phone behind, with only the clothes on my back and was very scared...
Lua
I was coming back from the mall when I heard a faint cry behind me that seemed distant. I looked back and saw a girl about my age, I think, curled up in a corner crying. But her clothes looked like those of a rich girl—what could have happened? I tried to turn away, but her crying echoed in the street, which was almost dark and silent.
"Damn it, Lua," I said to myself and decided to go to her.
“Hi, are you alright?” She looked at me, startled.
“You don’t need to be afraid.” I sat down next to her. “What’s your name?”
“Mirella. And yours?”
“Lua… What are you doing here? You don’t look like you’re homeless,” I said with a low laugh, and she gave a weak smile.
“I ran away from home.”
“Why?”
“My dad… He’s an alcoholic, and he came home drunk… then… he tried to as…” I interrupted her.
“You don’t need to say that word. I already understand.” She started crying again, with her head down.
“I have no one, no friends, no family… I don’t know where to go,” she said quietly, then seemed to have an idea and started searching her pockets.
“Damn, damn…”
“What is it?”
“I had his card, but now… oh my God, I think it fell out of my pocket.” I sighed.
“Calm down. You seem nice. You can stay at my place for a few days.”
“No, I don’t want to be a bother. You don’t have that obligation.”
“It’s not an obligation… I can’t just leave you sitting on this dirty floor and walk away.” She looked at me and smiled slightly.
“Thank you… Where is your house?”
“Let’s take the bus, okay?”
“Yes…” We got up. She seemed like a rich girl, and I knew GB would kill me for bringing another mouth for him to feed, but I wasn’t going to leave the girl there alone—I’m not that bad. I just didn’t know when I would tell her that my house was in the hill. As soon as we arrived, we walked a bit and reached the foot of the hill.
“I live in Maré Complex.” She looked at me and gave a crooked but sincere smile.
“I don’t mind…” I smiled and gently pulled her by the hand. There were some guys there who looked at her as if they had seen a tasty piece of meat on a Sunday table. I rolled my eyes.
“Keep your eyes to yourself, or I’ll tell GB,” I said, and they looked startled and turned their eyes forward. I laughed, and she looked at me.
“Who is GB?”
“You’ll meet him.” She nodded, and we climbed the hill. My house was quite high up; it was the largest in the community. I opened the door, and luckily, GB wasn’t there—I wouldn’t have to hear a lecture right away. I took her up to my room.
“Your house is really nice,” she said, looking around.
“Thank you… Do you have any clothes?” Of course, Lua, she ran away from home. Get a grip.
“No.” I went to my closet and got a pajama set and some lingerie that was still in the package.
“It’s new; you can have it.”
“Really? Are you sure?”
“Of course… I think you need to take a shower. You can do it right there,” I said, pointing to the bathroom. She smiled slightly. I handed her a towel, and she entered the bathroom.
Mirella
I took a shower, thinking about everything that had happened. Memories of that disgusting man grabbing me came to mind. I would never forgive him for such an act, even though nothing had happened. I need to find a way to go back there tomorrow without him being there so I can get my things. After the shower, I came out, and Lua was sitting, fiddling with her phone.
“Lua.”
“Hi.”
“Thanks so much for what you’re doing for me.”
“No worries, we’re friends now.” I smiled, and we hugged.
“The room next door is empty. You can sleep there.”
“Okay… Do you live alone?”
“With my brother, but he hasn’t arrived yet…” I nodded.
“Won’t that be a problem?” She laughed.
“Not much…”
“I can look for another place.”
“Hey, stop… I’ll handle it with him.” She said, pushing me out. She showed me the room, and I went in, lay down on the very comfortable bed, and ended up falling asleep.
