The sun was just peeking over the horizon when the man burst into the room, water jug in hand. "Time to wake up, girl," he growled, his voice low and gravelly.
Before I could react, he upended the jug over my head, drenching me in cold water.
I yelped, my hands flying up to protect my face. The water ran down my skin, chilling me to the bone. I swiped at my face, blinking the droplets from my eyes.
"What are you doing?" I demanded, my voice shaking.
"Your mouth is still running, I see," the man snarled, his face contorted in a sneer. "Save your energy, girl. By the time I'm done with you, you won't have the strength to talk."
