Every single eye in the room locked onto me. Maxwell stared at me, shock plain as day on his face, then spun around to gape at Piper, disbelieving his own eyes. Piper never expected me to show up alive. Her face froze, all control slipping right off her features. She dragged in a deep breath and forced a stiff, wobbly smile.
